Its real. the flashed part is the CDMA part of the phone meaning they dropped a Cricket PRL on there. I know a few people who have done that, the world phone part just means you can stick a SIM card in there if you want.

You also can unlock it so you can use it on T-Mobile and Cingular in the US. Pretty cool as you can get Cricket, Then pop a T-Mobile or Cingular prepaid sim in there and use them where Cricket doesn't have service. (There's a new one which has two Sim Slots you you can have a 3 carrier phone. Cricket, T-Mobile, Cingular or take out T-Mo or cingular and put a UK or europe sim from Vodafone in there)

hmm be careful cause i think one of the versions only supports european GSM frequencies and will not work in north america for GSM.

*mod edit* yesterday i was lazy and wanted you guys to look it up yourself, but here you go. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1194 the 8830 does not work on North American GSM frequencies. only 900/1800 unless there is some mod you can do. what that page doesn't tell you is which ones come sim-locked and which ones are sim-unlocked.

wow someone is defensive. Instead of deleting your post, I'm just going to correct you:

The reason I posted the GSM frequencies for the world is because if any intelligent person looks up this phone it sure won't help them know global GSM frequencies.

You can use it on CDMA and asia/europe on GSM.

I don't know CDMA frequencies very well.

US CDMA will be similar to GSM, as they run in the same spectrum banRAB.

800Mhz and 1900Mhz.

Cricket does 1900Mhz CDMA only.

hahaha. that is my item. Yes Cricket is fully working on this phone. ONLY VOICE CALLS AND TEXT WORK!!!!! me and my cousin are working on trying to get the internet and mms working, problem is where trying to change to simple ip and put the wap.mycricket.com on phone.

AS FOR THE GSM PART, as far as im conserned it only works with over seas gsm networks. and my blackberry unlocking contacts CANT UNLOCK THIS BLACKBERRY. so yes this phone is CRICK-ABLE

some versions are sim unlocked. some are not.

my Alltel 8830, on Alltel, is unlocked on the GSM side. Useless in the US, though.

the 8830's are unlock but like it was metion before is useless int he us and also in canada.( that leaves mexico still open)
