I'm getting a BlackBerry Curve 8530 in a few days. I purchased it used off of eBay. Currently, I have a Samsung Reality with the $9.99/month data plan. I have some questions about data usage.
First of all, will the Curve automatically switch between WiFi and 3G when I have WiFi service? For example, if I walk into my house and the Curve connects to my home network, will it shut off 3G service and use WiFi for all of the data (e-mail, browser, apps, etc.) so I can conserve my usage? I'm asking this because I'm trying to decide if I should get the $15/month plan with 150MB or the $30/month unlimited plan. I'm not going to be constantly downloading and checking e-mail (no push e-mail) and I'll probably use most of the apps on WiFi; Pandora, Facebook and YouTube are the only ones I would use over 3G, and Facebook would be the only one that I would really use regularly.
Another thing I've heard about it that some Android phones will automatically start programs in the background that use data. Is this an issue with BlackBerries? I'm guessing that BlackBerries work similarly to Android phones in the sense that you need to close out of a program when you are finished (for example, shutting off Pandora when you're not using it).
Any other information that you guys could leave would be great. I'm pretty much trying to gauge if I need the $15 or $30 plan. I don't want to go over my data (even if the charge on the $15 plan is only $.20/mb.
Thanks!
