Black Ops Game Version Not Compatible?

i play black ops on ps3 and ive recently tried joining my friends matches but it says game version not compatible. so i asked them and they said there was an update and when they go to their playercard u see "First Strike" under Prestige Mode. also when they go to PSN for zombies they see ascension. but they cant press anything on it because it is locked because the map pack aint out yet. i restarted my ps3 but its not asking me to update.
