WildAtHeart - really? Wow, you've now made me extremely curious about your life (not to pry, or anything). I'm bi-racial, too, and it's always bothered me - the light-skinned thing. Even my family says things like, "Well, you're not
really black," which I find
so incredibly insulting. How sad for them to so misunderstand my own identity issues.
I had a work-study student a few years ago who had the most gorgeous dark skin, but her own friends - politically active African-American college students - wouldn't date her because she was 'too dark.' Uch.
GeneralMaximus - hey you! Good to see you!
Actually, I'm glad I saw this clip since it's drawn me out again, but for a really good issue. It's funny, too, that in my last post before the thread started to die I discussed the up-coming Academy Award nominations for people of color, and look at the award nominees
this year! Even more people of color - people of all races - and that's just awesome. I might even watch this year...
DreamWalker - I hope you do, and I hope you post what you think.
'Tah for now! I might not be back to post for a while, but I'll be thinking of all of you here.
Also, I don't know if anyone else is aware of this, but the other night I realized one of the premium channels (HBO/Showtime/Starz - I don't recall which one) has a Black version, where they only show films by or with blacks. It's common for Latino-oriented films, and of course there's Channel One and BET, but I think I might subscribe to this service just so I can see some of the films and shows on...
