I just want to relate to any amputees out there who are struggling with folliculitis (zits, pimples, infected hair follicles) on their residual limbs, after years of searching and suffering, I found a solution. I wash my stump with Hibiclens (OTC) every night and rinse thoroughly. I also use Eucerin on my skin to keep my liner from sheering off the hairs, but the infections didn't completely subside until I started washing with Hibiclens.
I became a right BK in 2001. I have used both an alpha locking liner and am currently using the Otto Bock Harmony suspension system. Unfortunately, it has never held a vacuum for more than a day. I have just wanted to stop getting hair follicle infections that would put me on crutches and lead to bursa that had to be surgically removed and put me on crutches for a month at least. I tried using Phisohex for awhile and not rinsing it off but it started to dry my skin. Then my doctor wanted me to try Phisohex and rinse it while using the Eucerin and the pharmacy was out of Phisohex but directed me to Hibiclens and I've been much happier since. I hope this helps someone.
