BitTorrent: Do i have to seed permanently for others?

Okay, when you download a torrent and seed it completely so that you have a ratio over one, do you have to keep seeding to keep sharing or is it like you have made a copy for people to use even if you remove the torrent?
My question isn't how do i seed, i just wanted to know if other people benefit from a seed you did but stopped doing after a while

Seeding past 1.0 is usually enough for your guilty conscience. However, some torrent trackers keep a record of your ratios and give you lower priority (or ban you) if you have low ratios with their torrents. A good rule of thumb is to seed to 2.0 or higher. Be careful with your overall ratio number and watch individual ratios, since the overall is cumulative. Trackers are not very forgiving for having poor ratios on their torrents, and they won't care about your overall.

Now as far as legally... If you are downloading illegal or pirated content, seeding is far worse than downloading, and much riskier. Almost all of the P2P lawsuits were against users who shared (seeded) files rather than download them. You should use a BT client that supports blacklists and then download the latest iblacklist level 1 file. This should allow you to seed and stay safe.

Yes, Although you CAN stop seeding anytime you want for others to be able to download off you, you must be seeding. It is best you seed for few fays to a few weeks depending on the file size and your bandwidth limit. To explain, BitTorrent is a Person 2 Person Service meaning one person must be seeding for the torrent to be downloadable. 0 Seeds mean a dead torrent.

you dont have to seed it automaticly happens when you complete a download and your just helping other people downoading it and you just press stop and it stops seeding

seeders work something like if you have 1 seeder on a torrent you will get slow downloads so if you have about 100 seeders you will get a faster download, normally i don't seed torrents for long cause i always look for the ones with hundreds of seeders.
