ok just got my ps3. got it from comp usa because they had a 70 dollar 2 year replacement warranty and it being a first generation their might be glitches in it so this is the cheapest warranty i found and a good investment/idea.

next if you get it and origianly play it with rca cables but upgrade to higher connections later you have to go to the first connection made to tell the unit to use the higher output
example : i got hdmi cables 3 days later, and i had to go plug in the rca cables to tell the ps3 to use the hdmi output...
just trying to save some people the aggression of plugging in hdmi and not gettin a signal.

2nd of all. if you dont have a hdtv, dont get a ps3, there is no point. that is the bottom line.

It's wire... it should make a difference. I wouldn't pay $200 for a Monster Cable, mind you. But I'd at least like pure oxygen free copper, not copper which corrodes. If I can see the difference using different VGA cables, I should be able to tell the difference between a poorly made HDMI and a well made one.

Oxygen-free copper

Oxygen-free copper, commonly abbreviated as OFC, is a manufacturing process of copper cables. The process produces more pure copper, resulting in slightly higher conductivity than cables manufactured from unprocessed copper.

A variation of the oxygen-free copper manufacturing process called linear crystal oxygen-free copper, abbreviated LC-OFC, also increases purity between crystal boundaries, resulting in longer crystallites (grains) and therefore lower resistance.

These kinds of cables are often used in high-end audio equipment and other fields where retention of analog signal is important. While manufacturers insist that the difference in resistance is significant, most professionals and audiophiles believe that there is no perceivable difference and that the claim of "oxygen-freeness" is just a sales argument to trick consumers into paying more.[1] The difference in resistance is quite small (about 20%) and is usually dwarfed by the resistance of the connectors and other factors. Also the most commonly used grade of "oxygen-free" copper, C10200, is the lowest grade available and does not provide all the features of the better grades. [citation needed]

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the main purpose of expensive wiring for analog purposes where noise can be introduced to the cabling? This should not be the case with Digital.

i picked up a phillips gold plated connections cable (6 feet) for 29 bucks from wall mart. its 60 for the 12 foot one. a little pricy but my god. the picture quality and sound is so much better.
