So in biology we spread e. coli broth all over a plate. We then put four antibiotic disks (with Penicillin, ampicillin, kanamycin, and tetracycline) in four different quadrants in the plate. We then put a blank disk in the center as the control. What would be the purpose of the blank disk?

to tell that the infection isn't controlling the bacteria itself.

you always need a control center to compare the rest of your results to, to make sure its actually the antibiotics (or whatever else you use, depending on experiment) killing the source of infection or illness.
