If you are preparing a slide showing mitosis in cells from a root tip, why should :

a] the tissue be stained?
and
b] the stained material should be pulled apart with a needle and gentle pressure applied to the cover slip during mounting?

Please help?

a) So you can easily identify the different sections of the plant/root, therefore it is easier to recognise what stage of Miotis the slide displays.

b) To ensure that the slide remains secure and does not break whilst it is being viewed under a microscope.

I hope that helps you get started... I'm nto very good at Bio, it's my weakest subject. And to be honest I didn't really understand the second question.
