Remember that the result of meiosis 1 is two genetically different haploid cells, which then divide during meiosis 2 to result in four different haploid cells.
Meiosis 1 is nuclear reduction; after telophase 1 the cells are officially haploid.
Meiosis 2 is division; the resulting cells undergo a process of division where they are still haploids.
