In an E.coli mapping experiment a cross is made between an Hfr strain that is g+ m+ p+ in genotype and an F- strain that is g- m- p-in genotype. Each of these three genes is required to make a particular nutrient needed by bacteria to grow; the - beside the gene indicates that the gene makes a non-functional product, and so the bacterium cannot make the substance in question. Interruptedmating studies show that m+ enters the recipient strain last. The m+ recombinants(500in total) are then tested for the presence of the g+ and p+ alleles. The following data were obtained.
plate1: minimal media->414 colonies formed
plate2: minimal media+substance g-> 416colonies grew
plate3: minimal media+substancep->430 colonies grew
b) List all the genotypes of cells that you can distinguish based on your plating results above and give the number of each type, explaining how you know. (2 points)
c) What is the gene order (show your reasoning)? (2 points)
d) What are the frequencies of recombination between each pair of genes? (3 points)
thank you so much
