I have a 2007 Schwinn Voyageur, a Comfort/Road bike, and I'm planning to take it on dirt roads on my next trip. Is this a good idea?

Yes. I ride lots of dirt roads and some single track on my cyclocross bike with 700x32c tires, and it does great.

Wont kill you or the bike, but it wont be to comfortable for you or the bike. You will probably be regretting going on that bike if the road gets steep or to rocky though.

Try to buy dirt tires from either Canadian tire, walmart or any store for under $20, and yep not the thin ones which can cause you to trip and fall. Otherwise it should be fine

Sure, I ride dirt and gravel all the time, on my road racing bike. They are some of the best roads.

Be careful in the turns / corners - traction is iffy.

Try not to hit gravel chunks, they can cause flats.
