Bikers: Where/how do you park your bike in (town/city centres or at home) to avoid...

I typically keep mine in a well light area and if possible a place where I can keep a view on it. If that's not an option they do make brake rotor and steering locks - just remember to unlock it before you take off or bad things will happen. Also many late model motorcycles come equipped w/ security systems that will set off if the bike senses enough movement.

you could try carrying around a chain and lock in your backpack or somewhere on you bike
you can then wrap the chain around both wheels through the spokes and then if possible around a pole or tree or somefthing mounted to the ground
if you cannot find something to chain it to just wrap it round both tyres and lock it off

...theft? Hi all

I'm looking into getting a bike but something I'm concerned about is theft.

I'm a car driver, and obviously a car isn't as easy to pick up and stick in the back of a van when nobody's looking!

I can get third-party only insurance for £88 a year - but I am aware that a friend of mine got her bike stolen 5 times in 3 years - and (like mine will be) it wasn't brand new or special!

At home, I've read that I should keep it in a garage, or locked to a post that is sealed into the ground with concrete. But what do you do if you go into town and go shopping? Or go out for the day somewhere?

Thanks
