bike tryes 26X1.95 upgrade needed?

Hi. My wife has a trek navigator 2.0. This came with Comfort 26x1.95 tyres. They pick up a lot of punctures. I would like to upgrade the tyres therefore. Has anyone experience. I was thinking about 26x2.0 but am concerned about mud guard clearance. Any recomendations appreciated. Thanks
