Bike to Bike Communication...Anyone doing it???

Scala G4 works great for me. Have had up to 4 riders connected. Not the easiest to set up..but once you have the operation figured out..it is the best I have ever had. Previously had the chatterbox. sound quality of the G4 is far superior and full duplex. Chatterbox is good if you have more than 4 people in your group as G4 is limited to 4 max.
 
I use my CB when I'm riding with a couple of groups around here, but some folks look at you like you're from Mars when you ask them if they use their CB. Lots of Ultra riders never use them at all.

I also find it to be useful on long interstate trips to chat with the truckers and listen in on their conversations. A nice distraction from my regular music list, and it keeps the boredom down.
 
Thanks all for the input. I had thought of hand signals (whats the one for "I have to Pee" or "are you hungry yet") and CB radios that in the last 30 years have gone from 23 to a whopping 40 channels. The new streamline 3/8" pigtail mic wiring will no doubt prove to be a stealthy look for those that opt in. That stuff sounds really trick, and if I ever cruise with Fred Flintstone I'll be all over it. LOL.

I'm going to start researching the Collett Communicators, Blue Ant Interphone F-4, and the Cardia Scala G-4. I'll see what info and comparisons are out there and then try to sift through it. I appreciate hearing from those of you who have owned/tried these units and give first hand experience. Even you CB riders, with 40 choices I could have easily selected a wrong channel. Not now. LOL.

Any input on installs or helmet fitment/comfort with any of the above units? Do they actually fit into your ear or just mount in the helmet beside your ear?

If Price is an issue, you can get good prices on the Cardo Scala Q2 It will connect up to 3 and works well. I got mine before the G4 came out and love it. Have used it on a group ride while I was sweep and it did well till we got out of site. A friend of mine and his wife use those and love it, they just did a big trip from FL to Sturgis and back with them.
 
Dancing legs works for I have to pee, rubbing your stomach for are you hungry yet. Of course pointing at a parking lot or turn off works for many things.



And you ride a Harley
 
I bought a pair of Sena SMH10 bluetooth headset a few weeks ago and used them last weekend for a Saddle Sore 1000 ride. Worked great and the reason I bought it over the Scala was easy of operation because they have similar features and range. The big difference was to talk you just press in the large jog dial on the outside to start. To change volume you just rotate the large jog dial. No fumbling for little up and down buttons. I might be selling it since I ride mainly with the 1/2 helmet. If interested PM me.
 
Well! Too good to use CB huh! That's O.K., there are not many people using it anymore including the truckers, so unless you get around a truck stop you don't hear much on the CB radio anymore. Sure is nice for our little group (made up of all Ultras or GW trikes which all come with CB as standard equipment) when we travel though. We run ch. 19 to keep up with road conditions and we don't ride very long without somebody in the group making a comment about something or cracking a joke. Keeps things from getting boring when we are stuck riding long, straight hwys. Works good to warn those ahead of the idiots coming up behind them also. Course, most of the ones I ride with are old truck drivers, so using a CB is kind of second nature to us. Just wondering, did you ever own a BMW?

P.S. If my bike didn't come with a CB nicely incorperated into the radio unit, I wouldn't add one. I would go with one of the options mentioned above. But then, that is one of the reasons I bought an Ultra in the first place.
 
I'm just havin a little forum laugh and poking some fun. Truth is I own more than a dozen CB's. I have never started a convoy or anything but they are a big part of all that work that we do with pickups, Big Rigs, heavy equip., tug boats, small boats, and even hand helds.

20 years ago I even picked up a tweeked CB from a truck stop in Missoula that had the loud "Roger" beep and echo box in the mic. I hated hearing the guys that had them so bad I decided to join them. My employees quicky placed it under a D-7 track.

My thing from my original post is that I wanted a low impact way to share all my 1 years of road wisdom with my wife who is greener than me. As we are riding together I see a lot of things I would point out if I had a direct line to her ear without having her pull her attention from the road to operate a CB or like style communication. Thats all.

The rest is just jesting. I don't mean to pee on anyones Cheerio's or yell Tang at a Kool-Aid party. Thats not my style. I really do appreciate all of the help that folks on this site share freely with the rest of us, especially us newbies. I'm cool with whoever you are or whatever you have. "Run what ya brung" is my motto. That includes CB's. 10-4. EW
