Bike riding good exercise?

I love to ride my bike, but I haven't really ridden my bike in years. I plan to start riding again in the summer but I never realized the health benefits of it.

Is bike riding a good way to tone the legs, hips, and buttocks? What are some other benefits? Also, any other biking advice?

I did a lot of bike riding last summer and lost about 10 pounds over a month/month and a half period. I felt great! The only negative thing was that at first, I did get a lot of sore muscles in the legs and I actually pulled a muscle in my knee. I was in pain for about 2 weeks before it healed.
I would highly recommend 20-25 minute 4x a week. I would start with 3x a week if you haven't done it in a while. Then again, I have asthma so I had to start out slow.

I wish I could ride my bike again, I gotta find a way to get it up and down my apartment stairs... =(
