Big Audio Problem 9241

You have 2 TVs with digital audio inputs? I thought that almost all TVs had only analogue audio inputs, or HDMI...

Thank you for all those informations, will check next week if my RVP got updated

I did, but I've tried both settings.. I'm using optical audio cable into my receiver

I have a 6 year old SamsungHC-P4363W rear projection HD with built in DVD which offers Optical - Coaxial and HDMI input

At first I thought this thread is about the age old problem of uneven audio level among channels, which has been around for 10 years or more. It's like CBC Newsworld is quiet, but some channels are loud.

Guess this is yet another different problem, but it might be more pronounced combined with the first (age old) problem too.

I know cable doesn't have that uneven audio problem.

And then there is this audio mute problem on 9242 from recorded / live pause playing during scene that is very white, or very black (transitioned to). (thre is a thread on that, but I just want to count the number of problems related to audio alone). The audio mute is more pronounced via digital audio than analog audio but it is still obvious. A typical situation will be when a movie is coming to the end and the scene changes to black for the credit roll, the audio is almost always going to mute for a sec. Doesn't happen (much?) during Live view.

My wife is going to kill me... She just said "I want our old TV and cable back!". I politely asked that she not throw the remote at the TV when the volume increases. It's so annoying!

Anyway, I've tried every combination of RF/Line and Dolby, PCM or both.

It's still happening.

:(

Thanks for all of this information. I attempted to speak with Bell support on Friday (12th) about this but got nowhere.

Does anyone know what the latest firmware version is? My 9241 is at V234.

Thank you.

Yes, 234 is the newest. I'm assuming when they send out a 'fix', it will be new firmware, so we should know it is there, and should be fixed.

Took me 45 minutes, I had to keep insisting that I've done the troubleshooting stuff. I think it just came down to he finally called the right higher level tech. But they won't go up there until you waste tonnes of time with stupid basic troubleshooting.

I wish there was a way to reference my problem that I've reported and document with them. Seems stupid that someone else calls in now and they have no idea what is going on, but I'm not surprised.

Hopefully I'll get some new information later in the week when I call them again.

Thanks for the info. That's not an LCD (post 33), it's a CRT-based Rear Projection HDTV and Sound system. A pretty rare beast.

I'm assuming the Panasonic is a 28" CRT (not rear projection) using analogue audio?

There have been differences in volume between programmes/channels and between the programme and commercials for years. Sometimes the differences are due to a programme being DD5.1 vs DD2.0

UPDATE:

Bell replied to my email again, and as per the above instructions about holding two arrow keys, they say it is the up and down keys. I did it but it doesn't do ANYTHING at all... I encourage everyone to let bell know this problem is bugging you via email or phone, to make sure they get on top of this. If anyone else can try what they suggest in my previous post, and post back if it does anything, and if it works.

Hi, when I have two spare hours, I'll have to call Bell unless anyone has had luck getting rid of this volumn fluctuation issue.

I have a 9241 PVR , only 6 months old, ever since we got it have been noticing volumne fluctuation on spike/discovery/galaxy, during programs and commericials. Had an older model 4200 (I think) and never had these issues before. not my tv, have hooked it up to second tv with same result. Live in BC interior if that makes any difference.

emailed Bell who advised me to:
1) check my revision version # which was up to date
2) check my signals on transponders 1,3 & 32 which are all up around 90% strength
3) reboot my receiver which I did and still no change.
4) call for help - duh!

I think my PVR is still under warranty so may have to go that route if no update or fix has been forthcoming from Bell.

Hoping someone has found a solution since I last read the postings.

234 has been out for a few weeks, I think that is what caused the varrying volume levels (was supposed to fix freezing, according to what they told me months ago, but I've had many freezings since then)... I think all it really did was enable the Ethernet port etc for remote pvr stuff.

Rather than fixing what we have, they introduced new stuff that just didn't fix existing problems, but created new ones.

I'm still waiting for them to do something with my UCT (Uncommon Trend) form that they filled out on my account. A few days after that I had to re-sync it as most of the channels weren't coming in, but the problem is still there, so I don't know if they have done anything for me or not. I have to follow up with them, but don't have hours every day to waste talking to them. So really I'm just waiting till they fix it on their own. Either they will fix it soon and give me money back for the time it's been going on, or they won't fix it soon, and they will loose another customer. This whole thing though has got me more and more interested in FTA and OTA.....

Well that makes sense then.

I've had freezing and stuttering issues since that update, along with the volume issues.

So no new update was issued last weekend I take it? I'll spend a bit more time this week over a lunch hour and get a level 3 tech on the phone at Bell. Time to get a few more months of programming credits!

OK, my speculation about Dolby RF-Mode misbehaviour was wrong. It was worth a try. Thanks for the replies.

yeah, I tried to get credits, the rep told me I should, but said to call back once it's resolved. I'll be demanding rebate equivalent to the rental I've paid on this thing so far (80 bucks and counting I think now)

It seems information that comes out varries, I find it odd that the level two and level three support contradicts each other. Then again level two told my rep to check my connections, asking me what cables I'm using. too bad the rep barely knew what an optical audio cable was.

Any time anything new in electronics is introduced it inevitably introduces a new technical "feature" (a polite name for problem). It's inevitable. You can bet that when 3D TV becomes a reality this fall that new technical glitches you've never dreamed of will become major concerns just as mosquito noise, macroblocking etc. were practically unknown before HD came along.

Is this still an issue for others? It is for me. I listen to the music channels often and the volume goes up and down all day. It seems to happen at the beginning of a new song just about every time. I was thinking of calling tech support but I am sure it would be a complete waste of time.

Hi everybody,

If I wanted to reproduce this issue, would I simply connect my 9241 to my TV with HDMI and tune to any channel and it should work right away?

Any channels that you find will reproduce the problem more often than not?

I'd like to help resolve this for you.
