I know this is probably stupid and I dont know anything about bikes but I am buying a single speed bicycle, but i want to get new rims. Can I put fixed gear rims on a single speed bike?
oh i wanted to add...that my bike does have flip flop hubs. i dont know what that means though. sorry! i know i know nothing!

If it just the rim without the hub then yes you can. just make sure if your current hub is 32 36 spoke count then the rim needs to be this as well.

Why not buy a new bike with a flip/flop hub? All you need do is take off the back wheel & flip it over to change from a single speed to a fixed gear & back again. See link below.

Gears are mounted at the hub area of a wheel and not the rim. You need to by a gear set with the change mechanism and get it fitted by a good cycle shop. You use the same wheels (rims) as come with the bike.
