Hey as the title states i'm a rookie deciding wether to partcipate in my first Bicycle race and wanted to ask the experts. The race is called the Denton Turkey Roll. Its a 20mile race this coming weekend. It would be my first time. I have simple sports bike (i think its a 21 speed bike) nothing professional. I used to be a runner up until 5 months ago and still keep in shape but little running now. My question is Do you guys think theres any chance in hell i would be able to accomplish this? sorry if i gave little detail. Also are charity type races full of more competitive and experienced racers? I definetely don't want to show up with my simple bike and possibly not finish when theres is a huge crowd of elites. What do you think is an Okay time for an ametuer?

It might be to much but i do like a challenge. I just saw the race and since i was going to be nearby i tought i would give it a try. In the mean time i could do some basic training and test myself. So any advice you guys can give or what your toughts are would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1. Its not a race, just a ride.

2. 20 miles isn't very far. Assuming you and your bike are in any kind of reasonable condition, you'll finish.

3. I didn't see any mention of prizes or timing, so winning or losing isn't an option.

4. A rule of thumb in endurance sports is that you get the benefit of today's workout in two weeks. Anything you do between now and the ride won't have much effect.
