It's been tossed around this site that chain saw lubricant (bar oil) is just as good as bicycle chain lube (oil). In a word...crap. I bought a gallon jug & a small 2 oz. squeeze bottle. The next time I needed to lube my chain, I got out that small bottle only to find out it was SOOOO thick, it wouldn't even come out of the bottle. In fact, in another week, it had congealed into a solid glob in top of the bottle.
On the other hand...a generic NAPA brand Engine Cleaner & Degreaser worked just as well or better than a high priced can of bicycle chain cleaner/degreaser from a bike shop. For about $3.00 for the can of cleaner & another $3.00 for a small bag of shop towels - the chain & derailleurs looked almost brand new again.
