im buying a new phone in about a week ....
ive alreddy made up my mind to that its a choice between the
n80ie and the p990i..
But WHICH ONE????
i alreddy owned a n6680 i relly liked it but i sold it recently...
i understand the they both have certain bugs that ive read about
in these forums....
i.e p990 = firmware issues but from what i understand it have been rectified in the latest firmware
n80ie = slider issues..
but i relly dont know much about overall experiences with either devices...
So all inputs or opinions are welcome..
Thanks in advance.
or im also ordering from phonesource-usa.com cuz i heard nice things about them

If you HAVE to choose between the n80 and the p990, go with the p990... It is a newer, more advanced phone...

That said, the p series is a real pain in the ***, and nothing like the 6680 you just had. I went from S60 to UIQ, and regreted it after about 2 weeks.

At the time, the switch was a serious upgrade and I was stoked about it... After about a week, the newness wore off, and the tedium of a touch based interface wore in... It was the biggest pain in the *** phone I have ever owned, and i've owned a few...

If youre willing to chunk down the money required for a p990, or an n80, go for the n95 at 659usd from nokia.letstalk.com.

It is better than both, in every way, and s60 owns UIQ...

That's my two cents, coming from a guy who made a switch thats very similar to the one you are describing.

But really, if you have your heart set on one of the two, go with the p990, feature wise, its the better choice... But again, I say that with many reservations...

Best of luck in whatever you choose

hey thanks alot for the response
but i jus dont have enough cash on me to get the n95
the thing is im not from the US ,but my father is going on a holiday there from wednesday...
so u understand how important the choice i make is ...
and where im from there is no such thing a repair centers
u have to pay a whole lotta money to get phones fixed..
so how robust the construction of the phone is also important to me..
so can u also give me an insight on how robust the p990i construction is ??
The next thing im also very much into IT cuz dats what im studying right now....i also work part time with a consultancy firm....
so understand why i relly like gadgets>>>>

Get the P990i. I have had both and although the P990i is bigger, it's also got a bigger screen, better camera, and has A2DP. The new firmware has fixed a lot of the bugs and Ram issues. It is still one of the phones with all features on it. The only thing the N80 has is that it is somewhat smaller. Other than that, I prefer the P990i.

get the n80, you won't regret it. SE and smartphones? come on, they lost the competitive edge on that one about 2 years ago or so. UIQ is so dead. the only good smartphone platforms today are s60 and winmo. moreover, let's face it: the p990 is a brick, you can kill someone with it if you try hard enough.

save yourself the pain and frustration and just stay away from the P990.
the N80 is not bad, but I would save up to get the N95 right now.

i recently tried the Samsung BlackJack and Cingular 8525 (even though they are Windows Mobile, my comments are related to form factor.) sure a keyboard is nice, but if you don't need the keyboard, stay away from the extra size imposed by its addition. i've found that the thinner and smaller the phone is, the easier it is to carry and use, and you'll be much happier with it, especially a device that you can use one handed. touch screens are nice (for a few days), then you'll get annoyed with them, especially when you have to scroll thru lots of menu items; same thing with scroll wheels.

nice things about some of the nokia phones is the ability to use them one handed to go thru almost all the menu options....maybe it's just me, i'm sure others prefer the scroll wheel, touch screen or keyboard on some of their devices.

there's lots more applicaitons for S60 than for UIQ 3.x out there, and the P990 doesn't have EDGE. besides, if you look on any of the forums you'll soon figure out that the battery life of a phone using WIFI or 3G is very short. on the BlackJack i was able to get about 1 day of battery life using the extended battery and on the cingular 8525 i was only able to get 16 hours. (mixed use, 3G/WIFI/Bluetooth and a few phone calls).
