Bev Testing MPEG4

Maybe its possible he got his information from echostar? Perhaps they received an order for MPEG4 receivers.

I guess without knowing the source of the info its hard to believe. Personally I think the truth is going to be somewhere in the middle. MPEG4 receivers in october, a few new MPEG4 channels in 2008... Along with a few new rate hikes up the ...

You can just add the 8PSK tuner to a Bev 6000 and make it identical to the Dish 6000, or if I understand correctly, the 6000U was already 8SPK capable, but were 6000U's ever sold in Canada?

If they have problems getting the 8PK tuners, there is now a clone version on the market as they are in high demand by the HD FTA guys.

I read they might actually run cooler and better, go figure!

Okay for the last time, that memo was a statement of upgrading the reciever names in the POS/ordering system to make sure it was up to date when the recievers actually shipped.

It has nothing to do with the shipping of actually mpeg4 capable recievers.
*sigh*

nem, who thinks people believe what they want to believe, which incidentally, is sometimes not the truth

I think its very valid to discus the MPEG4 transmissions coming down from the Nimiq birds.

Although at this moment they are not there, maybe the MPEG4 team got the long weekend off.......

It is the future of HD from Express Vu, MPEG4 receivers are on the ground in Ontario, they will find their way into homes pretty soon. Obviously at that time they will only decode the current MPEG2 data streams but still in is a significant step forward for "Canada's HD Leader".

If I were to be just getting into the HD market right now I would be very grateful for the information on this site to enable me to make an informed decision. Without DHC breaking the MPEG4 story this could still be shrouded in typical Express Vu mystery.

Flagging an MPEG2 signal with MPEG4 headers, just the type of scheme we might expect from Bev.

Trying to pull a fast one over unsuspecting consumers just to coerce them into buying a new receiver when nothing has really changed.

On top of it all, it doesn't help their bandwidth crunch, but has all the appearances of a good thing.

It's all smoke and mirrors.
Knowing the astute people here and some of their capabilities to see through such a deceit will only cause them more grief.

I don't think they'll ever learn.
People are as dumb as Bev seems to think they are.
Well some maybe.

CH. 885 FTA-1 12545 20000 V 5/6 MPEG4 480i Much Loud

Other channels allegedly reported on .US sites going MPEG4, but unable to verify.
Did note that they also quoted same TP as noted above.

No discernable difference against MPEG2 stations.

maybe a little harsh with the schizophrenia comment, im sure it was in jest
you may not agree with what sensual poet has to say, but he does know a lil bit about the providers

Reports of Bev resuming MPEG4 testing with 4 channels allocated to the transponder (12545 20000 V 5/6) , but only 2 showing 720i video.

Discovery and Rush being tested on CH. 885 MPHD1 and 886 MPHD2.
Rush digital audio incorrectly configured, sounded same as playing AC-3 content on a PC without an AC-3 filter.

I went over to look and couldn't tell the difference between the MPEG4 and the original, but my eyes were tired.

I think Scott has already corrected himself wrt to the "sept" date and clarified that he heard fall and assumed that to be sept.

It all depends on "who" said this. From my understanding the COO has said that mpeg4 was on track for 2007, if the marketing dept. can't keep up with that timeframe, sh1t will be flying. I have worked with him with his previous employer and I can tell you, he wouldn't have made this commitment without the proper background from their technology group on their ability to deliver the solution. Sales and Marketing are in for a whoop 4ss.

So actuallay Bell has 2 HD channel / TP. With 8PSK you can go to 3 HD channel / TP and with MPEG 4 you can go to 5-6 HD channel / TP. Bell use how many TP today for HD channels ? 20 ? 25 ?

And there's room on 82W to add how many channels ?

scrooloose Don't forget that Starchoice charged DSR500 customers for the 8PSK upgrade, so it's not unprecedented. Personally I think there will at least be discounts.

-Mike

Some Starchoice customers paid a limited fee, some did not. I had my DSR500 and my 401/201HDD upgraded to DSR505's for free.

bev fan, your reading ability is now in question......

Where on earth does it say in ARR's post that he works for Express Vu, for crying out loud man, you get shot down every time you try to dis FTA, now you resort to libel....

Do yourself a favor, read a post twice before replying.

Now go back to watching your free tv.

And apparently by several credible posters here it would seem, having just re-read the thread many times.

Those not in the know will hang on his every god like words in desperate hope of the truth, those that are near equals are better able to decipher fact from fiction and probability.

His posts make repeated references to U.S. actions:

"Here in the states we went through this already with Dish Network and are now going through it with DirecTV."

"Here is the states Dish Network is doing that on August 15th as they will be converting the VOOM HD channels from MPEG2 to MPEG4."

"Again look at what Dish Network and DirecTV are doing here in the states. This is the roadmap that ExpressVu will be following."

It seems you ARE correct regarding Americans subscribing to foreign signals, the violation occurs because Bev's service agreement is breached and in particular by a person of industry notoriety and having a business relationship with Bev. Doesn't really set a good example of high moral fibre.

Other than the technology partnership with Echostar, Canadian and American cultures, methods and business operations are distinct and it would be an error to suggest otherwise without facts.

And there may be some, but that would likely violate a NDA and again, sets a poor moral example from someone who demands to be taken seriously.

"I would have to say I know a little more about them then he does.

Trust me on that."

My understanding is that if Express Vu go to 8PSK, they only need to upgrade the 6000 model receivers, all the others, should be capable of accepting 8PSK.

BEV will have to supply a whole bunch of VIP 211s and 622s in a hurry if they are shooting for this year. And then there is the issue of the upgrade price.

Quite truthfully, a big part of this whole MPEG4 switchover is so they can secure the premium channels with ROM 206 encryption.

Unfortunately for BEV and Dish Network, that card has already been compromised.

Sorry, but what a childish ego maniac. Not a single poster said they "don't what you here".

And as for 1) "I am an ExpressVu subscriber" -- since you are living in Connecticut you are, by definition, an illegal user of Bell ExpressVu. Yes, you may be "paying" for the service -- or have it "comped gratis" as an industry pundit -- but it doesn't change the fact that a US Bell ExpressVu "subscriber" is against the law in Canada and the US and breaks the programming licenses in both countries that the content holders have made with respective vendors.

Illegal satellite TV use is frowned upon here. How much do you actually pay every month to Bell shareholders?

If the information was correct , why I can't buy new MPEG4 HD PVR enywhere.Obviously somebody was posting BS , but it wasn't me.

Assuming the '720i' is the actual signal type being tested, and not just an error on the display/interpretation of the FTA HD units, could it be possible that Bell is using this signal for preliminary testing as they don't want to consume the additional bandwidth required by a 720p or 1080i signal? Once they iron out any preliminary bugs, I imagine they would proceed with further testing at 720p/1080i. I'm not even close to being as well versed in the technical side of things as several others are, but does this sound like a logical explanation?

IF they do try to deliver a '720i' signal to their customers and pass it off as HD, aren't they breaking the rules?

Ha, what irony, last night a flyer came in from Shaw.
Trade in ANY model satellite receiver and dish and get a free refurb HD PVR with 3 year warranty.
I'm gone!
I don't see much point in sticking around and getting frozen out of future HD channels or spending yet more money on another EV receiver. I'll trade in my old 4700 and sell my 6100 and make a few bucks.

For those that don't know who Scott is, he owns and runs the largest US DTH information website. I will not name it out of respect for Hugh.

His site was first to announce the migration of the ten Dish Network VOOM channels to MPEG4, long before Dish Network announced it. He usually has the inside scoop before anyone.
