I've been reading some posts but not quite finding pricing info / selection that im looking for, sorry if im not searching well enough.

We currently have a basic bell subscription with a 3100 receiver. Im looking for information on how much is will cost for me to get HD. I used to use Rogers HD, but Rogers does not offer service where I am (hah, I know...). Im looking for a good selection of HD programming w/ a HDPVR. Thanks for the information.

Your best bet is to check the bell website. The programming packages are displayed there along with current costs. This site does not maintain a list, but often discusses increases or other related factors.

Same applies to the hardware although there are many posts already on the subject of getting free upgrades, free installation etc.

Essentially, it is likely you are looking at $20/mth rental for a HDPVR and $10/mth for HD programming.

You should be able to get free install and free rental for a while (usually 1 yr) as well as free HD programming (usually 6 mths).

Bell is currently changing their HD options. See the HD price increase thread or page 42 of April's Show Magazine. You probably want a 9242 HD PVR and the HD package(s) for $10. You also need to sub to the SD sports packages if you want the sports HD channels. As stated, there are offers on rentals and/or programming when you upgrade. There is also free installation with a 1 year contract.

The 6141 HD receiver, has the capability to be a HDPVR, with the addition of your own external hard drive, but the feature needs to be activate by Bell
When that will happen, who knows, but something to think about, if you have an external HD sitting around, and are scared from the $20/month rental price of the 9242
I have the 9200 (the older version of the 9242) and I would recommend getting that over the 6141, but hey, thats just me

The current deal seems to be hardware at half-price. The HD PVR is sold for $300 instead of $600 according to the web site.

What should an upgrading non-HD subscriber like me get (or perhaps ask for)? $300 HD-PVR, free install of upgraded dish and two extra cables into the house?

Current deal is for "new customers only". You should call expressvu to find out the best deal for a "customer upgrade to HD" and put that together with a "retention offer" .What you get in a retention offer depends on how perturbed you are with your current expressvu. See the retention offer thread.

True in the past, but no so much any more. Read the "retention" thread where is discusses options ofr existing customers in detail.

I'm pretty sure the offer of 50% off applies to existing customers as well. If you sign for 24 months, installation is also waived. I tried to go online to verify, but bell.ca is down. Lovely....

50% off would be a deal that could solve their mpeg2-4 trade in 9200 for a 9242 problem. I don't think expressvu will waste it on paying customers.
