I'm going to stay with expressvu for another 12 months Offered and accepted free rental on the new HDPVR Free install and 30% off programing all for 12 months. The only downside is the contract it says it will be 12 months before they listen to my bitching again.

I think this might be the last year for expressvu to drop it's pants. If they do get their satellite plans going they might try to force us to pay full price next go round. Or switch.
One thing for sure $30 a month for expressvu HD and rental of the PVR is too much.
Fighting for a credit for 8 months is their instant rebate program :D

If anything I would suggest this would be $10 month for the HD portion of their signal.

Well I made the switch today to Rogers from BEV. What did it today was reading BEV was adding yet another new channel that has absolutly NO interest to me or my family. Something called Cosmo tv.starting Feb.14 . I have been asking and waiting for BEV to add TCM and AMC and MSNBC for so long I can't remember ! Now I will be getting my old movies and National Geographic HD too! By By BEV. Hello Rogers. Plus a HD Pvr to boot for 2 years no charge .

i told the lady i wasn't interested in hearing the "special offers"...i don't expect Rogers to be the best thing since slided bread, but you don't fix problems by throwing money at them...BEV needs to realize they have problems, and the only way for them to realize it is by having people leave...it will look bad on the books when they do their quarterly numbers...if people take retention offers and stay, churn doesn't increase, and the numbers still look "good"...i am getting a good deal from Rogers to sign up with them and will see how it goes for the next couple of years...after that, i can always explore my options again and see where it takes me...i am looking forward to the On Demand channels, a few of the HD channels that BEV doesn't offer and seeing all the London Knights hockey games on TV...hopefully, the 8300HD boxes they are giving me don't suffer from the stuttering playback and "jump to live" my BEV hardware does...from the fair amount of research i have done though, it looks like i should be OK...most of the people i know have Rogers for everything and they are all quite happy with them.

Nooo, don't go...
I hope your transfer to Cable land is an easy one
VOD sounds neat, even though I don't know how often I would use it
I do like the ability to use an external HD...
Maybe I will join you one day, who knows, its been ok/good for a while, and I don't like change
Oh yea, what is slided bread?
I lived in London for a few years during University, and kinda remember eating slided bread a few drunken nights....But haven't seen it since, so I guess its a local delicacy
hehe:p

I emailed BEV to see what kind of deal they could get me switching from Shaw. I wanted to see if they would trade my Shaw HD PVR for BEV's HD PVR. They replied that they couldn't do that and listed all their channels they offered. I replied to stating that I would probably go with *C because they will trade me my HD PVR for their'. Here is the response i got back from BEV, i found it kind of funny;

. I have no idea what he was responding too. Maybe he got my email mixed up with someone else.

The thing I am impressed with, dirtyjeffer, is the fact you are prepared to give Rogers a 2 year trial period, seriously good for you. Too many people just jump and jump again within a matter of eeks, some even days.

You are being very realistic, giving them a fair chance and I for one will look forward to your impressions of Rogers in the near future, I have a feeling than no matter what your opinions are of Express Vu, you will come back here with an unbiased report. I look forward to it.

There is one poster on this forum who has a signature which makes reference to trying Express Vu for about 2 or 3 weeks, which is not a fair trial at all, your attitude is to be applauded.

TCM is easily one of my favourite channels; and MSNBC is very nice to have, especially during the US election season. Nat Geo in HD seems like a no-brainer for Bell to carry; I don't understand why they don't. Check out ch 94 when you get installed: that's Nat Geo On Demand and all content there is free. If you've subscribed to TMN you'll also get some HD Movies On Demand for free as well.

I was thinking he was giving them two years cause that's the length of his contract I guess my negative side got the better of me again. :D

Certainly up till the time the company is officially sold (late March, early April?), there will be a lot of pressure to try to keep revenue high and subscriber counts high (hence the "service fee" and much better deals for existing customers than previously): this is for optics to help the new owners finance the take-over debt (after going private they no longer have to report details sales and earnings).

I'd guess next summer we'll see a pull back in rich offers as the new owners assess which customers they want to keep and let the "high cost" ones go. And if the new owners get a good enough deal for ExpressVu, lots of folks believe they will sell it ... creating another period of transition and uncertainty.

The only thing that's real, however, is today: so if you like the current deals, and you are happy with the service, enjoy the savings.

EV certainly seems to have lost touch with its customers. The 9200 is a great piece of hardware (and the 9242 is better) but bad firmware and inaccurate guide info make it unreliable now. That wasn't the case 2 years ago. Then there are the popular channels that have been missing for going on years now while niche and non-English channels get added instead. Service has gone downhill as well. Something I thought was impossible. EV has also had the most price increases of any ISP in the last two years. And for what... so they can get a better price when it is sold? The main thing holding me back is the loss of the receivers. They do some things that Rogers and *C boxes don't do. But ultimately the real value is in the programming, not the hardware, and other ISPs are looking better than ever.

I was very exited to read this part.....lol

Shame it partially failed almost as soon as the wings unfurled....lol

And didn't that happen back in 2002....

I think he was replying to a question in Jan 2003, not Jan 2008......Just got lost in cyberspace.

that is what what was holding me up for a few months...deciding about giving up the hardware...in the end, after two years, realistically, what are a 5900 and a 9200 going to be worth to anyone anyway...most likely by then, the encryption will have changed and the receivers won't work, so i might as well give them to rogers and get 2 HDPVR's for free for 2 years...after 2 years, i can always explore my options then...Rogers offers everything i have now, plus a few extras for about $35 less per month (with the new price increase)...i'll take the savings...even if it were a similar price, i would probably still leave, just so i don't have to give $200 to Bell every month.

You could be correct haystack but at least he is prepared to try.

I just wish I was in a position to escape but I am stuck with them for the foreseeable future.

I think I know what he meant for not paying for the signal for 6 months. Credit = $200 on your first statement. Min to buy ExpressVu is $31 (US nets opt out) plus $3 DSF. Total of $34 before taxes. IF you just took the minimum, than for 6 months your programming would be covered. I.e. $34*6 = $204. But obviously if you subsribe to a larger package or HD etc, the credit will depreciate a lot quicker.

I have no problem giving Rogers my old equipment. When I made the deal with Rogers they had no problem upgrading me to there HDPVR and a standard digital box . Even though I am only relinquishing a couple of my old 2700's. No great loss here, they are six years old now. My 6100HD is a lease. Dirtyjeffer If you have a couple old 2700's kicking around trade those in and sell your better stuff on fleabay... Rogers CSR had no issue with NOT having traded in a BEV HD pvr to get a Rogers HD pvr. Very Happy with the deal. Big switch is mid Feb. when my HD reciever contract is up. I will post here after the Rogers install is done.:)

^ i only have a 9200 and a 5900...i won both of them from work, so i don't really care about trading them in anyway...hey, they gotta make money from this trade in program from someone, might as well be from me. :)
