BEV Carried a Superbowl Channel with US Ads - No Kind Words?

With all the squawking that goes on in this forum about what Bell Expressvu does wrong, I am more than a little surprised that practically no one has spent a few minutes to compliment them on adding a special channel showing the Superbowl with the US ads on Sunday. BEV didn't have to do this. Surely they deserve some acknowledgement for their effort.
 
I would have been the first to say a huge Thank You BUT I did not get this "special" feed.

I am angry and have alreay contacted the CRTC and ExpressVu to voice my displeasure.
 
I checked around ~30 mins before the game started and a new Fox channel appeared. I think it was 807 or something close to that.
 
Plant me firmly in that camp as well - big ups to BEV for coming through and actually responding to customer wishes. Enjoyed it immensely! :D
 
The channel was not available to people in either the Toronto or Vancouver CTV coverage area. Is that where you are?

We already PAY for FOX east and west. You should thank CTV for having digital OTA in Toronto and Vancouver.
 
Hey, what is the big deal? I've had BEV for quite sometime and they've always shown a feed with the ads. This year however, it was limited to HD from what I saw on the guide.

I do however enjoy that this happens and have to wonder why can't we have this on all the American channels. This is my biggest complaint with our CRTC, if something is advertised and sold as American network feeds, how can they come along and force our stations **** overtop???

Not sure why BEV does it, but good on them for doing it no matter what.
 
Actually, CTV should be thanking BEV shouldn't they?

I assume the problem was BEV can't "spot beam" the CTV simsub so it had to offer up the FOX E and FOX W to folks outside the respective CTV area.
 
The only reason Bell did this was because the other providers were doing the same thing. Bell is very lazy. The should not be simsubbing ANY HD channels in my area because the closest CTVHD OTA station is 250 miles away, and the closest GlobalHD OTA station is 3000 miles away. Bell should only be simsubbing the Toronto and Vancouver areas, like Shaw is doing. Why should I thank Bell for doing something they should already be doing?

I would agree that this was not only kind of BEV, but inline with the simsubbing rules as I understand them.

If you have an OTA HD channel, you will be simsubbed....sorry Toronto & Vancouver. If you do not, you won't be.

I would agree, that this was the correct move on their part.

So, if you live in T.O. or Van, Just move to Calgary like the rest of the country's doing.

I would agree, I loved the "special" 807 feed we got here in NS. I have been following the OTA thread as well, but that is not a possibility here in the sticks - it's a long way across the Bay of Fundy to Maine...LOL
I agree that sim subbing is a silly practice though as well, and was especially struck by the obvious difference even to my non-technical eyes (and ears even more) in the signal - the Fox channel 807 looked and sounded much more "peppy" than the CTV feed on 800 (I think it was). I switched channels a couple of times to check. I did enjoy the US commercials as well, so, yes, a big thank you to Bell. It would be nice to have these channels all the time, though...
 
Cheaper to put up an antenna, get the signal OTA and no CompressVu. ;)

I doubt that ExpressVu did this out of the goodness of their hearts - there was probably something that "forced" them into this since they don't do it for their regular (simsubbed) programming, which I gather is in violation of the CRTC rules.
 
would that mean they have extra transponder space to add SpeedHD for thier 100 hours of Daytona in HD?
 
I'm glad that they did it, but like 57 said, I suspect there was pressure to make this feed available for other reasons. Perhaps the cable companies that use BEv feeds as their source demanded it?

Would I be allowed to "move" or change my address so I wouldn't fall under the blackout rules?
 
It kind of makes you wonder why they can't create these virtual channels for all simsub situations?
 
I think you'd need to set up an out of area billing Postal Code. That may however turn out to be more difficult than it first sounds.
 
Except they wouldn't really be virtual, would they?

Since they do simsubs at the uplink, the US feed technically does not exist, so to mkae it available they have to uplink it again...OR was the US feed just remapped to 807?
I guess it doesn't matter.

I suggested one time, that they just apply a blackout and tell you to tune to channel X for the broadcast.
