Hi All,

Does BEV broadcast in more than stereo? IE, if I hook up a center channel and rear speakers through an HK445 receiver, will I hear any benefits over just listening in stereo? Does it matter if the signal is HD?

Enlighten me, please.

IF you use the digital audio connections on the receiver AND the program is transmitting in Dolby 5.1, then yes, you will get additional audio channels.
There are 'some' Dolby channels, but the vast majority are musicam audio.

ALL the HD channels, by there design spec. carry Dolby 5.1.

Any programs encoding in Dolby Surround, like the Simpsons can be handled with analog L+R via the musicam outputs.

Good audio always enhances the viewing experience.
Go for it.
 
I'd love to just be able to increase/stabilize the volume coming OUT of my receiver, stereo or mono or whatever.
 
Ya, going all digital is supposed to help that but I'm not holding my breath. Various receivers have functions that work as compressors or limiters built into them though they come up with some pretty creative names to describe them. You may have that functionality in your receiver. It does squash the sound though so if you are a purist you probably won't like it. But if it means the difference between being able to watch the TV while others are sleeping you may want to go for it.
 
Actually, this is a whole other question -- there's tons of variation between channels and sometimes between the loud and quiet parts of shows. I've been thinking of installing a compressor between my BEV receiver and my home stereo. . . .
