BEV 4100 receiver question and answers

does the bev 4100 receiver require a bev card to work ? or is the bev card built in?
 
If you wait a few weeks, the 6131 HD receiver will be released for $199. I'd really push for that. You'll get the 15 or so free HD channels even with a base package, including CBC HD for hockey! Later you can add an external hard disk to that receiver and make it a PVR. As a new customer, you might qualify for some discounts as well. It will make a big difference on your HD television.

i hate tv's answer should be made a "Sticky" it is a perfect answer to a very common question.

Initially, the receivers come with a card but Bell modifies them so the card is integrated.
 
I tried searching but couldn't find anything on the subject that really answered my question... I've been using rabbit ears my whole life and that was fine with me, but I've moved to an area where the only channel that's clear is french CBC, and I miss my Hockey Night in Canada. The others were occasionally watchable on my old 27" CRT, but not on the 42" Sammy plasma I bought last week, so after looking at everybody's offerings, I've decided to go with BTV.

I had enough trouble justifying it to the wife in the first place that I'm not even going to bother trying for an HD box and programming unless I have to, so will the PQ be decent on an HDTV with a 4100 hooked up via S-Video? I assume so, but nobody I know has BTV, and being pretty new to both the HDTV and cable/satellite worlds I figured I'd ask before I bring something home I'll be disappointed with.
 
The card slot is for something better than Nagra 2. Technology become obsolete so quickly these days. :rolleyes:

Hey all! I dont have a bev subscription or a satellite dish or anything of the like but my friend left a bev 4100 reciever when he moved and gave me it..

I see theres an TV ANT in thing and i read that this reciever actually does work with OTA..

I tried plugging it in but only says like.. looking for satellite and bunch of text..
and nothing else..

And + I cant find the remote that goes with it..

so first, can anybody confirm this works with OTA, and if so, what are the steps i need to take to make it work.. i plugged in my antenna in that hole..

and if a.. RCA Universal remote could possibly work on that.. or do i need absolutely that exact same model. thanks!
 
if you dont have the user manual handy, try this
hold the tv button down, till all devices flash, then the tv button should be the only one lit
press the power button
then press the channel up button (make sure your tv is on)
press it one at a time (it will send out different remote codes for each flash)
if the tv turns off, press the pound button to lock the frequency
then try and turn the tv on
im pretty sure this is the way to program it

Just to elaborate on Hughs' response, this receiver does not have a Digital OTA Tuner.

The TV Ant In port you see would be suitable for say basic Cable or Analogue OTA, NOT Digital.

Any basic Bell Remote (The Blue Button IR models) will work just fine with a 4100. The higher end 5900 remote will also work but are somewhat more expensive and you will not gain anything by using one.
 
Well I tried with my RCA remote and it works..

and yes Pinza, Analog signal would be fine but im in the menus and i cannot find an option to have it see my analog signals... only says.. please standby for the satellite signal.. but i dont have dish plugged in or anything just my TV antenna :s
 
I think it only works via the "F" connector connection to the TV if I remember correctly. So there is NO advantage over connecting the analog OTA directly into the TV.
 
oh ok cuz I was trying to do this only to get advantage of the video-out from the reciever.. because i have no video out on my tv and i wanna make it go to my capture card on my pc.. and i thought it would get my analog signals from the reciever and then get the video out from there
