When I received my new smart cards in the mail today there was one missing for my 1000 (which I have been unsuccesfully trying to reactivate lately). When I called into customer service for the 6th time today, they told me that I would have to pay $100 for a new card or buy a new reciever. When I asked why that was the case, I never really did get a straight answer, even from the supervisor who claimed his computer crashed and I would have to call in again in 2 or 3 hours when it was working again (or when his shift was over more than likely).
Has anyone had the same experience or knows what the real deal is?
Thanks all.

First of all, unless price increased since I left EV (last september) the price of a smartcard was 69$, not 100$

I feel that the rep just didn't know what to do with you, perhaps didn't even know the 1000 model and wanted to kind of get rid of you. Supervisor should have been able to help taught. It is very well possible that his computer has said crashed, EV doesn't have the strongest system in place. Computers were crashing on a daily basis at the office I was at.

When they did the last swap everybody that has a receiver with card received a smartcard FREE OF CHARGE. The client that claimed never received it got a replacement FREE OF CHARGE, until July or August last year, date at which they deceided it has been long enought, if they didn't take care of it they have to pay a new one.

I would call again if I was you. I'm sure the rules are still the same and they will forward you a new one

If that doesn't work threat to disconnect. The retention team will probably offer you rebate that will give you extra $$$ to buy a new machine

What smartcard is in there now? Since the 100 is seriously old, is it possible you have an original smartcard (i.e. pre-first-swap - Rom3 or Rom10)? If so, they may have a legit claim that you need to pay for the new card (to take you to the 2 card level). If not (i.e. you have a previsouly swapped card already from the first round), then you shouldn't have a problem nor should you have to pay since the second swap is not complete.

have you used that model 1000 since 2004/2005? I suspect you have a really old card in there.

He said he got it re-activated recently...if he had an old card the reps would had told him back then that his card was outdated.

If that receiver is now active on his cccount it shoudn't matter whether he's got the old model of card or the current one, he should be sent a replacement card

Actually he states he has not been able to get it activated....

No point in speculating any further. Let's just wait and see what largeshow comes back with as answers to the posted questions.

There may be a charge for the card but EV usually refunds it in credits. OTOH, I have heard of problems with model 1000s, due to the newer encryption being used. It may be more trouble than it's worth to activate. I would see what kind of deal is available on a new receiver. I believe 4100s are $3/mo to rent and $50 (net) to buy but there may be better offers.

Sounds like he got one of those old cards... EV decided to no longer replace them as of last summer. Client that wanted one cause he lost/misplaced/throwed away the replacement one was being charged 69$ for a new one.

Price is apperently 100$ now, according to previous comment so I woudn't bother with the 1000 and get a 3100 or 4100 which are both 99$ new. You can even buy a 3100 0r 4100 for as low as 25$ on certain internet sites like Kijiji. Just make sure that the seller actually called EV to let them know they sold their receiver otherwise you won't be able to activate it for yourself

Not in that case... I had a similar case last summer and they refused to give the client anything to compensate the inconvenience. It ended up as a supervisor call where supervisor explained to the client that it was his responsability that he thrown away the card (cause he didn't read the papers comming with it and taught it was useless) that he should have called us to find out what that thing was, that it's been X years since we swaped the cards, blablabla
