Between a Ford Aspire, Subaru Justy, Geo Metro, VW Cabrio and a Mazda 323,

what is the best car overall? I am a really poor student and I need a car that is reliable (if any problems were to arise, it is easy to fix) as well as gas efficient. I don't care much for the actual appearance of the car but I would like a hatchback. The years for the cars I am looking at would probably be between 1986 - 1994.

If you have any other suggestions for cars, please do so.

Geo Metro!!!! I drove one for awhile, and it rocked! Awesome gas mileage, CHEAP parts - I paid about $200 for a comlplete engine replacement! (Used, but the engine I bought had about 90,000 miles on it - not too bad!) Sometimes the parts can be hard to come by, but it's worth the search. I drove mine from Illinois to Arizona and it did awesome the entire way - even when it was struggling like crazy thru the mountains. Mine was a convertible, which made it even better!
Even when it literallly started falling apart at the seams (doors didn't open, floorboards falling out, etc) it still ran great.
