A new Coyote and Road Runner series of cartoons could be interesting, as it's probably the easiest classic Looney Tunes formula to emulate - but it's also the easiest one to screw up (as Robert McKimson, Rudy Larriva, and Larry Doyle have all proven). I doubt it's an episodic series, though, as the characters don't lend themselves well to that structure at all.

I'm seeing a lack of original ideas too. But we won't see any new ideas because these silly executives keep passing up great ideas from talented people! I know they are doing it somewhere. Some guy with a great portfoilo and a presentation for a good show is probable being laughed at by sharks who only want money. Thet don't know what entertainment is and I think that's the reason why the only stuff that gets passed these days is spin-offs. Scooby-doo spin-offs. Looney Tunes spin-offs. It's not original, it's just continuation of an old franchise and THEY MAY THINK that if they make enough mindless spin-offs that they can make some more money. New ideas are what people need. Not builds builds upon builds of Windows Operating systems.

The only thing I care about is Looney Tunes. Scooby Doo has gone on way too long man and more DC shows is just more of the same stuff. It's boring. Somewhere some man just had a great idea but it was probably thrown in the trash. Freakazoid and Animaniacs were great ideas. We don't need anymore copies of older things either. A new concept for a tv show is what is needed.

I don't know what to think about the Looney Tunes re-tool. On the one hand, hearing "sitcom" and "Looney Tunes" in the same sentence gave me a bad gut reaction. The old shorts may have had dialog, but they were primarily gag-based, so I'd hate for them to abandon that and put the characters in a situation that doesn't fit them. Also, sitcoms tend not to have music throughout the show, unlike Looney Tunes. Unless they subverted that, that'd be another thing that would distance itself too much from the theatrical shorts.

On the other hand, Tiny Toons had a lot of dialog and I enjoyed that. Plus, as with anything, execution is everything. For all we know, the writing is sharp and whatever premise they use for the sitcom lends itself well to the characters. We'll just have to see.

(Also, I'm kinda glad they dropped the "Laff Riot" title. Not only am I not a big fan of alternate spellings of words, but if a show is funny, one shouldn't have to say it)
McKimson did a respectable job with RR. His two cartoons were no Jones, of course, and lacked the specific facial expressions that Jones was famous for, but they were amusing and had a snappier timing to them than Larriva's, by a long shot. I would also rank them better than "Whizzard of Ow".

I'm glad they haven't completely given up on the Looney Tunes gang. Who knows maybe this new show could finally be the right vehicle for them. Though I do wish that Warners would focus on other characters in their large library. I understand why they usually go with Looney Tunes, Scooby, Batman, Superman and Tom & Jerry; cause they're proven successes - but don't shut out your other characters.

I tend to like the Scooby stuff but I wish they'd revisit other Hanna-Barbera franchises. I guess Scooby has been the one that's proven itself as a success the most though.

I'm glad that they're going to try new stuff with the Looney Toons but I wish that they really take some chances with it.

An Israeli studio did a CGI version of Coyote and Roadrunner? Interesting.....

But I will say that I agree with this comment made in response to the blog post:

So, I am looking forward to Not-"Laff Riot". Hopefully it will be at least as good as the better episodes of Duck Dodgers and Tom & Jerry Tales.

I concur. Why don't Warner Bros. consider a Scooby-Doo movie with Dick Dastardly and Muttley causing trouble for Scooby and the gang. The two villains have caused trouble for Yogi Bear and his pals for many years, why not have them cause trouble for Scooby and his friends for a change- it can't hurt to put those ideas into a future release. At the same time, other H-B properties should be revisited by Warner Bros.- that can't hurt, either.

Well, I'm happy new Looney Tunes is going to be made. But, I'm having doubts it will have the feel like the old-school one. Which I mean, more attended for everyone, then just for little kids.

When I went into this thread, I expected to hear some interesting new projects from WB Animation.. But this is basically what WB has been
doing for years.

Another DC animated movie, yet ANOTHER Justice Laague spinoff,
A new season of Batman: Brave and the Bold (How is this news? The show has been on the air for over a year now), a new Scooby-Doo cartoon, and the 500th Scooby-Doo direct-to-DVD feature.

I liked Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, and the first live-action movie, but otherwise, I feel Scooby-Doo is one of the lamest and most boring cartoons in Hanna-Barbara's library. Why do they make a new Scooby DVD-Movie every month?

What about The Flintstones? Tom and Jerry? The Jetsons? Yogi Bear? Hanna-Barbara's got a huge library of classic characters, and yet they stick to the worst one in their entire catalog.

This is pretty much how I feel about Scooby sticking around for as long as he has. Even during my childhood, when Hanna-Barbera toons were a borderline obsession for me, I found it incredibly difficult to fathom why Scooby saw as much favour as he did. The personalities of the characters and their interaction with one another, the dialogue and humour; it?s never felt particularly strong imo, and year after year I'm left baffled by it's longevity.
While not fond of it, from what I've seen, the writing for newer Scooby shows is quite competent and adheres to the spirit of the original show well, so it's a real shame that so many great characters can't get the same treatment and are instead left to disappear into obscurity.

For a second, I thought we were getting a Young Justice series. Unless they are the same thing and they only added the League part to connect with the previous series.

Looney Tunes sitcom eh? I'll give it a try but I'm not sure how well it'll do with a new audience. It's gotta be better than Loonatics at least.

Still interested in seeing the new Looney Tunes series, the new DC series, and Scooby Doo series. Though I do wish they would do something new, but if stick with the icons give them work, and the shows are enjoyable, I'll still watch.

For people who have not yet seen the news, Steve took down all but the DC Movies quote by Bruce Timm due to a corporate request.

The cached quote is here:

Does this mean the new Scooby series will get a third season? Last I heard they were working on the second with Matt voicing Shaggy, taking over for Kasey, who worked as Shaggy in the first. Also, glad to hear more films are coming.
