Betta Fish Water Temp Problem?

The weather in my city is getting very cold at this time. As a result, my betta fish (Indigo) has been very inactive and refuses to eat. I recently bought a small "Aqua One" water light which heats up the water slightly. Since then, Indigo has been much more active and is now eating again.

However, there are two problems:
1) Can I leave the light on constantly? Or is a constant warmer water temp. harmful to betta fish?
2) With the light on in the water, Indigo can see his reflection very clearly in the glass, and consequently tries to "attack" it. This tires him out quite quickly. Is there a way I can prevent him from seeing his reflection (e.g. wrapping a towel around the glass?)

Please help, I'm quite worried and I'd really appreciate it :)
