I'm not completely sure that's what this is... I've never really had to deal with a sick fish before. But this Betta I brought home last Monday; almost a week ago now, just isn't looking well.
He's still active, but not as active as normal, and he's still eating fine.
What I'm worried about is that his gills look swollen, almost looks like they are wasting away from the sides. The edges of the gills look dark red, instead of the bright red they have been.
The reason I suspect Velvet is that when I (finally) decided to shine a flashlight on him yesterday, I discovered gold patches, mostly around his gills.
So... list of questions:
-Could these gold patches be caused by anything other than Velvet?
-Could Velvet cause the swelling of his gills?
-Any ideas on good medications for this?
Failed to mention that he's been scratching himself on the plants in the tank, as well as the side of the tank itself; which he wasn't doing the first few days I had him. It's obvious he's sick, I'm just asking if it's velvet or not.
