Beta fish and a hamster tube?!?!?

On a website it says bettas like to go through things like hoops and tunnels and stuff like that. Well I was wondering what kind of tunnel? I started thinking, "Maybe I could use one of those tunnels that connects two hamster cages?" But on the other side I thought, "Those things are only about 1 1/2 inches in diameter." I know that the actual body of the betta fish could fit into the tunnel, but I'm afraid it my damage the tail of my common male betta I got from petsmart.
Please help and if you know a better tunnel I could use and fit in a 3 gallon tank, please tell me!
 
i've got a hollow log in my tank which i find my male betta seems to enjoy. i got it from pets at home for around £9
