Best/Worst Dubs of cartoons you've ever seen

Title says it all.


Worst:

-The Spanish dub of Code Lyoko. Yikes. I saw some clips.. and the voices are just... bad. Ulrich sounds 15 years older than he is, for example. The theme song is even worse, IMO.

-The Chinese Dub of Code Lyoko. I don't know if the Chinese version that was banned in mainland China is the same as the Hong Kong version, but yikes... They changed too much.

-The Vietnamese dub of Code Lyoko. Come on, they couldn't have been that cheap as to just take the French version and just have some bad voice actors speak over the French dialogue, which can be heard in the background. Very cheaply made. They can do better.

Now that CL is out of the way..

-The Turkish dub of Megas XLR. I haven't seen a lot, but Coop's voice is very unfitting.. I didn't hear the theme, though..

-The Dutch dub of Total Drama Island. Gwen has a strong Scandinavian accent. Umm, what?

-The 4Kids English dub of One Piece. I'm not a fan of this show, but I saw an example of what they did. And it disgusted me.

That's all the worst I know of for now.. Now the best.


-The Polish dub of Code Lyoko. Very well done, nice dubbing of the theme, fairly fitting voices.

-The French dub of Total Drama Island, if not because it has the guts to use much stronger profanity than the English version. In a commercial I saw for the French TDI, Gwen uses the French word for "female dog", referencing Heather (whose name in the French version is "Marilou", which you can hear Gwen say.) Again, I didn't hear a lot of this dub, but the voices seem alright.

-The Polish dub of 6teen. The Polish seem to be pretty good at dubbing shows.



That's all I can think of currently.
 
+1 about the French dub of Total Drama Island, the voices fit perfectly for the characters, note then some of the VA also dubbed 6Teen in French.

Here some other best dubs

-French dub of Wayside: The French voice of Todd, Sebastien Redding fit right in the target and Denis Mercier did a very good rendition of Principal Kidswatter although it was renamed in French as "M. Claqueminus"

-French dub of UFO Robot Grendizer known as Goldorak: it used lots of well-known French VA and unfortunately today, some of them had retired and lots of others unfortunately passed away like Jeanne Val, Michel Gatineau,... they founded some imaginative way with various name-games to rename all the characters and weapons of Goldorak like for example: "Space-thunder" was renamed "Corno-Fulgure"

Now for the worst dubs:
-the French dub of Sailor Moon. Sure it had less cuts then the well known Dic version but the voice actors didn't fit right for them except Philipp Ougouz, the VA who did the voice of Mamoru, also provided once the French voice of Patrick Duffy in the tv series Dallas.

-the French dub of the Simpsons used in France: there is 2 French dubs of the Simpsons. One used in Quebec, Canada and another one in France. The French VA from France who did the voice of Homer seems to be less emotionnal then the French VA from Quebec and doesn't fit it right for the characters.
 
The Japanese dubs of 90's Marvel is awesomer than thou.

Now as for worst:

This need no introduction.
 
Worst dubs:
Probably the Spanish and French dubs of some of the classic Disney movies heard on the R1 DVDs. Some of these are the 3rd or 4th re-dubbings of these films in Latin America or France or Quebec. The performances sound really inferior to the English versions. The singing is often pretty flat against the English originals as well. The worst offenders are probably the most recent Latin American Spanish dub of Sleeping Beauty. Also the 1990's French dub of Pinocchio found on the older non-restored R1 DVD. The newer French dub on the restored Platinum disc is much better.

I haven't seen much of the French (Parisian) dub of the Simpsons, but what I have seen of it, it's not that good.

The Russian dub of The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Mikuru is really off. Her voice is so generic. A lot of the actors are just reading their lines.

Best dubs:
A lot of foreign language dubs I've been exposed to are actually pretty well done.

Honorable mentions:
The Japanese dub of Bambi. It was recorded in 1951 and is pretty good considering that it predates most anime voice-acting. The voices really fit and are appropriate for the characters.

The Spanish dub of Pinnocchio. Recorded in Argentina in the 1950's I believe, it's really well done.

The Latin American Spanish dub of Dragon Ball Z. Screened on Telemundo in the late 1990's, this dub is probably the best when compared against the Japanese original. The voices for the characters fit perfectly and hardly sound off.

The Latin American Spanish dub and the Quebec French dubs of Coraline. Both of these are on the R1 DVD and are pretty good. Coraline sounds perfect in the French one. Even though she sounds a bit older in the Spanish one, but it fits.

The German dub of Earthworm Jim. The voice actors fit right into their roles and make them sound as enjoyable as their English counterparts.

The Quebec dub of The Simpsons. The Simpsons family speak in appropriate informal Quebec French and it works. Much better than the dub from France.

The Latin American Spanish dub of The Simpsons. Maybe I was just used to hearing it when it used to be simulcast on the SAP feed when my local Fox station broadcasted the series in syndication, but it's not bad. The voices mostly sound like appropriate Spanish-speaking equivilants to the English counterparts. Homer takes some getting used to. He sounds more like a big oaf in this version.

The French dub of Disney's Beauty and the Beast is quite good. The songs are impeccible and sometimes fit better than the original English version. This dub was done in France and is quite authentic (available on the R1 DVD).
 
The Yu-Gi-Oh french dub was a disaster because it was simply dubbed from the american version, with all the cuts and name changes. A dub of a dub, you have to expect the quality to degrade. They did the same thing with Digimon 01.
 
When talking about dubs, anime comes to mind for me. The best I can think of are:
Funimation Slayers
Viz Bleach
4kids Pokemon
Italian Yugioh (the song)
There are many more, but these are the ones I come up with quickly. Also, mostly anything Funimation is good.
 
I don't really speak many other languages so I can't comment on whether the dialoge is good or not but I remember seeing Ed Edd n Eddy in Polish once and Nazz sounded like she was 40, Double D sounded like an old lady, Jonny had practically the same voice as Ed, and Eddy laughed like "Mwah, ha, ha, ha, ha!"
