The bad habit I had was to eat waaaaaaaay too much chocolate and eat too much junk food of all kids, plus drinking soda, etc. The way to get rid of it was becoming allergic to all that :goof:  Of course I wasn't happy when i found out I couldn't eat anything anymore, allergies SUCK, but at least I got into a much healthier diet, which was definitely good for me :)

Bad habits sap our energy! Saw this article online today, and it helps to address that issue.

 Thanks.

I think we all have little problems in life to solve--I know I do. And it's good to talk to other people and get advice when it comes tor breaking bad habits and such.

Thanks Lem. With everything that's going on. I'm having big time stress. I'm glad that one part of my stress is over.

I'm a stress eater. I'm also a boredom eater. I need to be more mindful of my eating, both how much and what.

My bad habit is biting my nails. It's a terrible habit too. I can't quit. Help me!!!

 It's very hard.

I've simply been leaving the house to go sit outside on the swing for a few minutes until the urge to stress eat passes. But it's been raining all this week so that's not possible.

Sometimes I will play a computer game (I've probably become an expert at the free online version of Jewel Quest at this point) to keep my hands busy.

There's some good advice there

I have the same problem of stress eating. It really is hard to quit :look:

I saw this great article on a motivation website, and since the site suggests that readers share I thought I'd post it here.

Best Ways to Get Rid of a Bad Habit

Everyone has a bad habit or two. Getting rid of habits is a very hard thing to do. Even if you have a great deal of self discipline bad habits can be very hard to get rid of. Habits take about three weeks to really cement themselves into your mind. The same is true of breaking a bad habit; it takes about three weeks away from the habit to really get past it.

• Tell a friend about your endeavors. This will make you more accountable because it is easy to make excuses to yourself, but not as easy to make excuses when your friend asks how it is going. The more people you tell the more accountability there is. This also means that you can get more support. The same people that are there to keep you accountable should also be there when you need some support. You should tell people who you can call when your resolve is faltering.

• Replace your bad habit with a good habit. If you take smoke breaks at work, then take walk breaks instead. When you want to grab some potato chips, try some carrot sticks or celery with all natural peanut butter.

• End negative self talk. Do not tell yourself that you cannot do it. Even if you believe that you are going to fail, keep telling yourself that you can. Take it one minute at a time. If you are trying to lose weight or trying to quit smoking then just wait a half hour. Your mind can only hold on to a craving for about a half hour. When you make it just 30 minutes you will find that you have out waited the craving. Every time you can wait out a craving you will gain strength in your battle.

We all have habits we are trying to change--maybe we can help each other. :group_hug:

Me, I'm working towards ending the bad habit of stess-eating.
