Best way to watch/store TV shows/movies?

so basically i have a late 2008 model MacBook and i have got no space left of my 160GB machine!!! which i dont even how its possible?! :O i have got alot of shows/interviews all the way from 1992 (alot of which i deleted to make space and will now have to get again!) and movies on my laptop which i will NOW get a chance to watch since i JUST finished up with university/summer school for now!!! my question is what is the best way to STORE and WATCH all these shows/interviews on my TV without burning them to DVD??? i say NO DVD burning because i usually notice a loss in quality when i burn to DVD, plus burning all the episodes to DVD will take too many disks! i dont care about the movies much but i want a way to STORE (but not on my MacBook) then WATCH the shows/interviews on my TV, which i can KEEP FOREVER??? is this even possible??? we have a newer big screen TV if this helps! my main issue here is that i DONT want to LOSE quality and i DONT want ANY chances of LOSING the shows/interviews that i have!!! plus i dont want there to be a LIMIT to how much i can store since over time i will download more shows/interviews to add on to what i already have since 1992! did any of what i write above make sense? is it even possible? if so PLEASE TELL ME HOW since its obvious im LOST!!!
