Best Video Quality on e62

I've checked through this thread and this thead about video on the e62. At this point I have divx mobile, and SUPER. i've tried all sorts of settings mixtures to get respectable audio and video. the best settings I've been able to swing are at

Avi (for pocket PC) outputvideo codec: MPEG-4
Video: 320x240, aspect: 4:3, Frame/Sec: 15 , bitrate: 128
Audio: sampling freq 22050, Channels: 2, Bitrate 48kbps

Even at these settings the playback isn't hiccup free. I've seen post around the net of what people are able to due wit their e61s so it would seem that the e62 should be able to handle more.

So what video settings/solutions have you found to work best with the e62?

PS: Is there a possible firmware update I've missed to put the e62 in the operational range of the e61? From what I've seen it seems the e62 is kinda imped compared the the e61.

i tried the settings people use for E61 and its laggy on E62, the reason i believe is because the E61 has more system ram than the e62, the e61 has like 22mb or somewhere around there where we have around 11 or 12mb.

Man that stinks. Even so it would seem that we should be able to get better video playback out of the thing if nothing else is open. Hopefully either a Divx upgrade or phone firmware upgrade will handle this.

I've tried the smartmovie trial and I seriously saw no real improvement over SUPER and divx mobile.

Divx mobile blows. You were supposed to get SUPER and encode to .3gp and play with the S60 Realplayer. Works great everytime.

These are the LOWEST possible settings to get good quality AND an efficient filesize. (An hour of high quality video=~100mb filesize)

These settings are tweakable of course.
1) First and foremost, match the FPS to the source video.
2) If you are a stickler for quality, you can raise the video bitrate as much as 384, and you can raise the audio bitrate as high as you want. (56 is as low as you can go and still have acceptable audio quality, and I found 384 to be the highest possible video bitrate the E61 can play back smoothly.)

All this in mind, just follow these minimum settings and you should get great results.

I'll give those setting s test, but unfortunately ( well it's fortunate for you) you're using the e61 so the playback capacity on the e62 might not be able to keep up. I'll test it out when I get back him and see what I come up with.

yep. Like i've said, the e62 has issues in playing back video that the e61 seems to be able to. I don't know if it's the firmware, or the hardware specs the for 62 but it is gimped compared to the 61, as far as video is concerned.

Wow, that's really surprising. Perhaps a FW update will eventually fix that. As far as I knew (or paid attention to I guess) was that the pop port was replaced with mini usb and it was without wifi. Other than that I just assumed it was the same other than the Chop job Cingular would obviously do to it. HW wise I assumed it was the same.

If I remember right people were reporting that the E62 won't play videos correctly off of the phone's memory but does just fine off of the MiniSD card. They were suspecting firmware issues. I would recommend using the mp4 container with either MPEG-4, DivX, or Xvid as the video codec. You have to use AAC for audio if you go with the mp4 container. At 384 kbps or above for the video stream I get great quality. For some reason on my setup the AAC bit rate was for each channel so 64 kbps ended up actually to be 128 kbps when you check the file.

I remember hearing that the processor is slightly faster on the E62 but the E61 has more memory, so its a hardware issue.

In the meantime, try using other formats like Xvid or use the mp4 container.

I suggest one of two things:

1. pony up the $30 for Smartmovie. In the time that it took you to jack with all those settings, I click three buttons and drag-n-drop the movies over and boom I'm done.

2. In the time you've spent jacking around with Super and Real and all that garbage, you could have done some exploring and found a smartmovie crack and saved yourself the $30.

Ive tried the Smartmovie demo, and noticed no real improvement compared to Divx mobile. Have you used both and found Smartmovie to be markedly superior, while working on the Nokia e62?

I have tried several, and ended up with Smartmovie for the following reasons:

1. I can drag 20 movies in there, click ONE button (bottom left of the converter, you pick your phone and it automatically sets everything for the best settings) and then click "Convert" and boom. Come back that night and I have them all ready.

2. I can pick up where I left off. Divx mobile doesn't do this. If you close the app in the middle of a movie, you have to go fast forward to get back there. Whcih means you'll be VERY familiar with the first half hour of every movie. Smartmovie it'll pick back up where you left off.

Has anyone used QT7 Pro (with the MPEG-2 add-on) to save movies as .3GP files, for playback with the S60 RealPlayer?

I have not tried this, but I feel I'd trust Apple to do a good video conversion. I'd like to hear if anyone has tried this, and how it worked on an E62.
