Best Verizon phone with calendar features

I have a friend looking for a phone to replace his "Q". He needs coverage with Verizon and will have to pay full price; his contract period is not currently eligible for discounts.

He doesn't actually need email but He DOES need good PIM functions with a good calendar that syncs with Outlook. Syncing with Google calendars would be even better.

Camera is nice; not a deal breaker though.

Mostly he needs a really good phone that is slim, stylish, and functional.

Any ideas?

He is tired of the reboots, the short battery life, the size, etc. And he has discovered email and internet are not that important because he has an internet card for his laptop which is always with him.

Me...I LOVE my blackberry. But we all have our different needs. His is just great phone, good contact / calendar functions, and preferrably a small size. Not very demanding requirements, but I haven't researched that area of the market, so I need some recomendations for him.

The BB choices with Verizon aren't so great. The 8700 is larger than what he wants (he doesn't like the size of his Q) and the 7130 is thick by today's standards. He likes my Pearl, but obviously that isn't an option since he has to stay with Verizon for another year. He has a family plan and the EFT is huge.

He is thinking an inexpensive phone with good calendar until his Verizion contact is up is his best option. I haven't had experience in the current "phone only" area since I have had a couple of BB's over the last few years, so that is why I am asking for options here.

I would stick with the Q. Not going to find anything easier to sync for calendar and contacts and email.

Don't load it up with 3rd party apps. That is probably most of his problem.

Thank you DubDub for all your help. He is determined to change to something else and I don't know enough about "regular" phones to tell him what is good and isn't.

He hasn't downloaded 3rd party apps.

I appreciate your help.

2fingers, thank you for the update. I appreciate your input! I was all over that suggestion the day it was announced. It is up to him now!
