Best Use of Music in a Movie/Scene

Oh yeah, that one was lame  But I do love the rest of it! Especially K.C. and The Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogie Man, that song is insanely catchy. And Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' and The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel are amazing

I had mixed feelings about the music in Watchmen, especially with the use of "Hallellujah". But there were some nice bits.

I still listen to "Colorblind" and think of the scene in Cruel Intentions. They are forever linked in my mind.

nobody mentioned I HAD A FARM IN AFRICA from OUT OF AFRICA. the music score is my favorite!!!!! just adore the scene when they fly in the yellow plane over the herd of herons and the music rises. it is just awesome.

and the soundtrack of PEARL HARBOR is great too. THERE YOU'LL BE is definitely my favorite movie theme song.

i have a lot of fav moments when it comes to movie and the music but in the movie C.R.A.Z.Y when Zach is miming to david bowie - space odity is simply beautiful and moving...that movie hands down has one of the best soundtracks ever...:) i will come back later and say some more of my faves....PS i agree with mad world in donnie darko :)

I agree with this. That score is in a league of its own, I can't describe how much it moves me.

They're back now ;)

The Dark Knight had a fantastic score, so emotive and grand and sweeping and just perfectly suited for every scene. I absolutely adore it!

Also a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean music, I thought it was amazing. I loved how distinctive and different each piece was for different scenes, for example, The Kraken music compared to Dinner is Served compared to I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time, etc etc - each evokes different emotions, genius.

And there's something haunting about the music in Gladiator, the entire end scene, through Maximus' death scene to the credits gives me goosebumps.

Can you tell I'm a fan of Hans Zimmer? :P

Also this is a bit of a random one, but I thought the music for 30 Days of Night was amazing. It wasn't quite as much "music" as it was "noise with rhythm" - metallic and screechy and creepy and completely effective at putting the audience on edge. It was unlike any music I'd ever heard in a score before

guess I'm the only one who fell in love with the music in watchmen? Particularly Unforgettable!

OK, I'm not good with names but..

the intense scene from Last of the Mohicans where the female lead's sister and the male lead's brother die and fall off the mountain. OMG.
The music is amazing and there is hardly any words spoken. Just stares and tears and this music. And then the pain of the father.

It's probably one of the most intense scenes ever, with the music being just as important as the acting.

I personally have always like Snatch. Not really the whole movie overall, but I did think it was good. I'm talking in particular about the scene in which Brad Pitt knocks out Gorgeous George. I thought the music selection there was great. Perfect queue, you see him laying then "golden brown...lays me down..." wonderful.

I think titanic and elizabethtown and pride&prejudice and potc (God too much ) were having the best songs played on time on them!

I'm going to have to say Titanic.

When we see the ship for the first time all restored and it just has this huge music build up. It gives me chills.

I thought that was amazing, as well as when "Colorblind" was played and Annette sees Sebastian at the airport. Just...damn. THAT gets me every time.

I agree "i don't wanna miss a thing" is the best soundtrack for this scene in "Armageddon"

*looks around* Sometimes I feel like I'm speaking an entirely different language from everyone else... :look:

Anyway, the idea of character theme music is one that's been around for a while, but it certainly was perfect for the film, Laura, and well-used by John Williams (gives in to your references briefly). You know when the character is about to enter the room or is going to be discussed because of the music, even if you know it subliminally.

I suppose this doesn't count since it appeared on television, but...

When Joey comes upon Dawson ('Dawson's Creek') at the Greek garden pond thingy as he's distraught about... something. Sarah McLachlan plays in the background, then... stops. A quiet moment followed by a just right line. Then, Sarah picks up again. It's quite beautiful.

But, something big screen to make this post count...

John Williams throughout 99.9 percent of "Star Wars"! The original, of course! :D
