best tracks on movie soundtracks( instrumental only)

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the great film scores from the 1930s 1940s and 1950s by such composers as

Korngold (Adventures of Robin Hood; The Sea Hawks)

Steiner (Gone With The Wind; Now Voyager)

Waxman (Bride of Frankenstein; A Place In The Sun) and

Rozsa (Ben-Hur; El Cid)

All of these composers were heavily influenced by Gustav Mahler (Death in Venice) and they in turn influenced Bernstein; Morricone; and Williams.

John Barry owns movie soundtracks as a whole, the james bond films were great but "On her majestys secret service" instrumental music was great.

A couple more from Ennio Morricone, Gabriel's Oboe from The Mission ( a friend wants to have this played at her wedding instead of the usual wedding music)

Clint Marshall- Ghosts Of A Future Lost from Requiem For A Dream. Brilliant piece of music that goes so well with the scene (the phonecall)

suprised no one has mentioned James Horner's score for Aliens - it actually is my all time fave film, and the soundtrack adRAB to experience. and they still use a track or two from it today - in various trailers for movies, silly sports highlights etc etc -
that track is called Countdown To War

and heard at 1.10 on this.

also Chris Young's score for Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellrasier 2.

I watched Amadeus last night and that has a fairly decent soundtrack ;)

I was reading up on it on IMDB and found this rather funny :D

John Barry's 'Raise The Titanic' theme - probably the best thing about that movie to be fair (apart from the actual raising scene)

Also, Elmer Bernstein's score for Ghostbusters was pretty good - far better than the cheesy attempt with the second movie, I only hope they get it right for the planned third movie!
