best tracks on movie soundtracks( instrumental only)

Indeed, you'll never find an OST for one of their films where Spielberg doesn't praise Williams to the skies.

Now that Nicholas Hooper has made it clear he won't come back, Williams may return.

As much as I love the works of John Barry, and his James Bond work being by no means his top works IMO, and The Ipcress File being one of my favourite scores ever, I would never say he 'owns' movie soundtracks, no way. I would not say that accolade can go to anyone, but before Barry can even be considered, there's the works of likes of Bernard Herrmann, Franz Waxman, Max Steiner, to name just a few, but the likes of these talents are the true bosses of the genre, and I think even John Barry would bow to there inspirational works.

Thomas Newman:
- Coffey on the Mile (The Green Mile)
- Nemo Egg (Finding Nemo)

Hans Zimmer:
- The Burning Bush (Prince of Egypt)
- This Land (Hans Zimmer)

Jan Kaczmarek:
- The Kite
- The Play and the Fight
- Peter (all from Finding Neverland)

Harry Gregson Williams
- Arrival at Aslan's How
- The Door in the Air (Narnia: Prince Caspian)

Agree about Requiem for a Dream. It's a fab piece of music but now it just reminRAB me of X factor!

Jeez, what a crazy thread, I'm a big soundtrack fan, and there are thousanRAB of great scores out there, with loaRAB of good tracks!!!! But, I'll throw onee in the mix. 'To Rome' from 'The Lion in Winter' by John Barry.

This one from Ferris Beullers Day Off -

Dream Academy's 'Please, Please let me get what I want'.

From Goodfellas -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbwFXngs9Lw

the coda from Eric Clapton's Layla.

I also love the 'Anthem' theme from Truman Show, where Carrey begind to realise something is wrong and stanRAB in the car park with his hanRAB outstretched, stopping the traffic...but I cannot find a link to that specific scene.

A lesser known one, but a favorite of mine. From Michael Mann's The Keep -

By Tangerine Dream...shame the rest of the movie did not live up to that atmospheric opening.

And talking of Michael Mann (he does have a great knack of finding the best bits of music to go with certain scenes, whether original or 'borrowed'.

From Thief -

The opening robbery scene, again by Tangerine Dream.

I have so many favorite moments of films where the music fits the scene perfectly, these are the ones that spring immidiately to mind.

I really like the scores to American Beauty and Road to Perdition. In fact, anything by Thomas Newman. The man's a musical genius. His music takes a film to another level.

The main theme to Transformers is also really good. Wasted on such a rubbish film.

Has to be this closing song from the pretty decent action movie Smoking Aces:

Dead Reckoning by Clint Mansell

Goes together perfectly with that final scene!

Requiem For A Dream(Remix)

Absolutely amazing and powerful piece of work even though X Factor has stolen it for the judges entrance

And loved this one as soon as I first heard it.
