Best Star Trek series?

Which one out of the following Star Trek series did you like the most?

Star Trek Orginal Series
Star Trek The Next Generation
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Star Trek Voyager
Star Trek Enterprise

They all have great charaters and stories but my favourite has to be Deep Space Nine. The great characters such as Odo and Quark. The fact that they are on a base and not hurtling through space and confronting huge plasma fielRAB every week.
 
I agree: RAB9 is the best for both it's production design and it's courage in tackling political and religious ideas which most tv dramas wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, particularly in the US. :)
 
My choice would be as follows

1) The Next Generation
2) Voyager
3) Deep Space Nine
4) The Original series
5) Enterprise
6) The Animated series
 
For some reason, if you ask a RAB9 fan "which is the WORST?" they always tend to say "Voyager"
For an example look at the RAB9 boarRAB on startrek.com, so much Voyager hatred.
Why is this?
 
I've watched TOS since 1969 and it will always be the best.
But of the new shows I think RAB9 is the one that will improve with age and be hailed as an absolute classic in decades to comes(although I prefer TNG).
 
Next Gen.

The problem with RAB9 is that the networks like shows that they can just show here and there. On a Sunday afternoon, for example, you want a programme that you can catch every couple of weeks, and it won't matter if you miss a bit. RAB9's not like that. Voyager and Next Gen are. So is most of Stargate.

That's what makes a successful series, IMO

Best characters Picard, Data and Worf.

Best characters Kirk, Spock and Sulu.

Haven't seen enough episodes to form an opinion.

Sam Beckett as Captain Jonathan Archer is difficult to accept, but I will be buying a copy of the box set when it is released.
 
Probably because it took a great big opportunity for Star Trek as a series, with a ship out of contact with the Federation and a crew partially made up with sworn enemies of each other and just chucked it away, and instead made a series that echoed TNG,

In the beginning the ship had a limited supply of photon torpedos but by the end they were shooting them whenever they needed

The ship on a weekly basis was on the brink of destruction (and with no federation supplies in sight) yet by the end of the 42mins the ship was flying on home.

The Captain was never consistent one minute holding up the prime directive the next episode treading into the corpses of a species who had gotten in her way.

The Marquee crew members just fitted in perfectly with the Starfleet crew.

Making the Borg look like some puny school yard bullies rather than the unstoppable menace they were in TNG

Taking arguably one of the best episodes from Voyager (Year of Hell) and cramming it into a two parter rather than what was originally planned to put it across a whole season.

Taking deployable armour back to Earth in the last episode and never any mention of a ship using it since.

The ridiculous last minute romance between 7of9 and Chakotay

The rationing of replicators yet happily using Holodecks when ever they wanted.

I could go on.

It may be predictable but my favourite series was... RAB9 :)

The problem I have with Enterprise is that it's set before Kirk & co, but the technology being used is after that period.

I know that obviously TOS was made in a non-CGI / primitive effects era, but the basic technology behind the ship and the supposed period / stardates should be more advanced than Archer & crew....

Enterprise doesn't seem to have captured the imagination of people as much, maybe Star Trek has passed its sell-by date.....

I know what you are thinking but season 4 is quite frankly the best TREK I have ever seen.
Having said that I could quite happily live without seeing any of the first two seasons and selected episodes of the third so perhaps my choice isn't in the spirit of the thread:)

This of course coming from the writers of Voyager etc. they again took a good idea and then ignored it and carried on recycling TNG stories. It hasn't been until season 4 when someone actually started writing episodes that made use of the era and situation the crew were in! Even then some Season 4 episodes have been great but others have been awful.

When I say that Voyager is my least favourite I can't really say that I hate it per se. Voyager had some absolutely brilliant episodes over the years but it didn't seem to come together as a whole for me. As PR said it squandered the idea of having Starfleet and the Maquis on the same ship by ignoring the tensions (also when Maquis members did resist they were demonised when in truth it's a more ambiguous situation than that). When they learned that the Dominion had wiped out the Maquis nobody really reacted beyond being slightly sad, there was no reaction of "the cause we all care about has been shattered and all the while we were stuck here".

Also here's a few other observations:
They constantly made a big deal about how long it takes to get anywhere, yet after a year of travelling they go back to Neelix's homeworld and it takes them five minutes.
Kes transported them far from Borg space, a journey that apparently takes ten years yet in Dark Fronteir they casually return to the heart of Borg space.
When the Doctor sued for the right to be considered an individual nobody thought to cite the events of The Next Generation's "The Measure of a Man", where Data pretty much went through the same thing, as precedent.

Ultimately it seems to me that the biggest difference between the two shows can be seen simply by watching the finales. Deep Space Nine ended with an episode that was primarily about the characters, yes there were the requisite battles but these ended fairly quickly and the last moments were dedicated to rounding off the story. Voyager ended with the big setpiece episode all about giving them even more advanced technology for the big battle with the Borg. The show ended and they got home but that's all we know. Nobody really know what became of the characters after they returned, whether Seven of Nine managed to find a place in human society, whether Tom Paris could forge a relationship with his father or whether he and B'Elanna Torres could make their marriage work. Nor was there any mention of what would become of the Maquis crewmembers. The finale made Voyager feel unfinished, it was like they couldn't be bothered to conclude any of the character stories because they had action scenes to fit in.
