Best source for inexpensive unlocked GSM phone?

I've been a Sprint subscriber for nearly 10 years, and a Treo user for nearly 5. However, in the last year, the frequency and duration of my Europe and Asia trips have increased dramatically. I've looked into switching to Cingular, but the monthly bill would be more than double my current bill, and the data roaming charges would make using the Treo's internet functions prohibitive when outside the US.

So instead, I got the GSM SIM that Sprint offers its subscribers for a nominal fee ($6/month plus $10 shipping).

Now all I need is an unlocked GSM quad-band phone to use it in. For my last trip, I bought one for $75 from an eBay seller (with 1000's of positive feedbacks), but it turned out to be a 5 year old Siemens which I couldn't test in the US, and then didn't work when I got to Europe. (They said "sucks to be you, no refunds").

None of the little wireless shops in my area (Bergen County, NJ) seem to offer unlocked phones.

So, is there a reputable supplier of unlocked phones? What's the right way to get one?

Thanks.

Some folks here have said good things about letstalk.com. There's also mobilebee.com and Amazon sells unlocked GSM phones.
