Best songwriting teams?

...somewhat arbitrarily definining "team" as a pair of songwriters, as opposed to band collaborations. I just went with the few major pairs that came to mind, and kept the field somewhat in the rock/pop arena (I'm tired and added John/Taupin to fill out the poll; it might be amusing to see the results after a few weeks).

that would be suprising anywhere else. Here you get credit from equally "open minded" posters.

Also, My one post has tripled the collective other posts word count on this page. Thanks for the contribution.

i went for capt. fantastic and the dirt brown cowboy.

Looking past the obvious, and oft reviewed brilliance of the 70's (and less so 80's), their still coming up with gold in the oughts. The song "I want love" was as amazing as it was simple, and I think thats one of the things that the really great teams can do. Be soaring and visual in common worRAB and phrasing.

A lot of Fats Domino had the ability to be that simplistic and beautiful but on this list I'd have to say that Elton and Bernie have had a consistnt and elongated track record of making song, whether strung out on coke or sobered up witht he wisdom of age, they have some strong showings that are proving to be more timeless as we go forward.

Edit: It won't come as a shock to many people but I'm going to be a **** here and say that while Kathleen Brennan gets song writing credit, shes more of a muse as i've come to understand it and while its techinically a team, I don't know how much I want to include them (or how much as blinded by my own love).

I considered them (as well as Goffin/King, Barry/Grenwich, etc.) but figured that they wouldn't receive many votes on a site like this (though I did show my personal bias by including Devoto/Shelley).

I love the Smiths, and I'm really in a Stone Roses mood now, but in the end, I really had to go for Devoto/Shelley (anyone want to offer odRAB I'll have the only vote there? :) ). The Spiral Scratch EP, plus Orgasm Addict and Shot By Both Sides are six punk tracks that have never been topped.
