Best Sci-Fi from last 5/10 years?

It's Fantasy according to even the most simplest of minRAB. The only other genre it could possibly fall into would be 'War' I suppose, but 'Sci-Fi'? Ha! Gimme a break.

To be honest I don't even know why I'm wasting my time debating this for, when it's so painfully obvious

Oh and yeah, Gattaca is an absolutely awesome Sci-Fi movie. Comes with my strongest recommendation!

I loved The Last Star Fighter, haven't seen it in donkey's years. Another classic and a very sad film is Silent Running with the little robots Huey, Louie and Dewey.

Serenity
Sunshine - Although it has a terrible ending, the rest if very good.

Regarding Minority Report, there were a number of adaptations of the works of Philip K. Dick released around that time. Minority Report was one, Paycheck was another, but the best, for me, was the straight-to-DVD one, Imposter, starring Gary Sinise and Vincent D'Onofrio. Brilliant movie.

The only other one I would add, though perhaps an acquired taste, is 'The Cell'. If nothing else some of the visuals are stunning.

I found even J-Lo was passable in this.

Pan's Labyrinth isn't Science Fiction at all, but yes still see it. Pan's Labyrinth is a Fantasy film.

I'm no good with years a film came out, so forgive me if out a little:

Equilibrium
Pitch Black(Chronicles of Riddick, the sequel to Pitch Black is nowhere near as good)

^ Two underrated science fiction films

Also:

Casshern(live action) - beautiful to look at with an amazing ending

Sunshine - First half is excellent

Eden Log - Some find it boring, but I thought this was an excellent French film with some interesting ideas in it

Chrysalis - Another French science fiction film

Dark City - From the director of The Crow, and I, Robot

Children of Men

Renaissance - French animation, incredible soundtrack

Returner - Fun Japanese science fiction

Cypher

I would second "Primer".

One of the best films to deal with time travel i've ever seen. Ignore the fact it was made for $7000, it's a real mind f*ck and will have you thinking about it for ages. Absolutely superb.

because I know all the sci-fi greats but I haven't really seen much of modern sci-fi.

Thanks for all the recommendations mentioned in the thread so far- will look into them.

I've always enjoyed this one myself. Perhaps it's because my expectations were suitably lowered by all of the negative reviews I saw before watching the movie, but I enjoyed it. There's certainly far, far worse about.

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

Most definitely the best of the prequel trilogy, the only downside was the romance element which I felt was something you would see and hear on a school playground

It just cleverly connects the dots between the prequels and the original trilogy and the duel between Obi Wan and Anakin was very well put together as was Yoda v Sidious

Special mention must go to the new Star Trek film, enjoyed it more than I thought I would and hopefully it will trigger a load of sequels
