Best S60 for Cingular?

Wich 60 series would you recommend for Cingular and why? I'm looking for decent camera and video capabilities, external storage, good web browsing and Java games if possible.

What speeds are supported with current models? Will I have some kind of service everywhere in the US?

I'd prefer a flip model if there are any.

Yeah, ideally I'd like to get the N75 or N95 like everyone else but I need something to hold me over with the web browsing and camera duties till they come out (if ever)...

I'm hoping for at least EDGE speeds.

The N73 would be your best bet for camera and video capabilities on Cingular. The N93 takes better video (but apparently not better stills) but lacks 850, which is used heavily by Cingular.

OK, so does the Quad-Band of the N73 mean it will have reception everywhere in the US like my Razr? Also can it do EDGE speeds under Cingular? I see on the specs it says Class 11, so will video streaming work with it (like Cingular Video)?

I've just returned the Samsung SYNC and I wonder how they compare... I liked the speed and the screen of the SYNC very much (same res as the N73) but reception was scetchy in non-3G areas. It also wouldn't work as a modem at GPRS speeds - which I need when I go to the rurals. Also, I couldn't connect it to my BT GPS, nor to my BT stereo headset...

I'm thinking EDGE speed would be just fine for me as I was watching video streams on the SYNC at 160 kbps and it was fine on that small a screen. Is the N73 screen bigger at all? How about multitasking on the n73? Could I pause an Opera Mini web session if needed?

Thanks for any info!

Yes it will have reception everywhere maybe better than razr, also yes it handles edge on cingular, screen is 2.4 i think bigger and nicer than the sync in my opinion, as for the video dept i havent tried it so i cant give u an answer, as for multi tasking thats what the phone is all about, probably better than the sync but cant back that up,i know i can be on a call have my bible open and record video at same time while my music is still running in the back.

1. Yes it has both the 850 and 1900 GSM bands, which is all that's used here in the states.
2. It will do EDGE speeds, but unfortunately, the 3G is the wrong band for Cingular, so you will not have 3G coverage, thus Cingular Video won't work (but you can do streaming video through a number of other services
3. The N73 will connect to anything BT, I use mine with my Nokia LD-1W BT GPS receiver and it works fine with TomTom. But it does not support stereo bluetooth profile. You can however listen to music through a regular bluetooth headset, it's just not in stereo.
4. The N73 is a Symbian S60v3 smartphone, so yes you can multi-task. You can also install programs such as Opera Mini/Mobile and a host of other programs. Basically open your mind, anything you think your phone might be able to do, there's probably a program to do it.

Ha, well, even my Razr does better multitasking than the SYNC. At least it's able to suspend Java apps when I close the flip.

Does it have J2ME or Midp support? Or are the apps Symbian specific for it? I have some Java apps I like to keep using if possible.

Also, I did manage to connect and stream Cingular Video on the SYNC in EDGE-only area with EDGE speed so I'm hopeful there, unless Cingular is restricting it somehow.. I can always use Orb which worked well on the SYNC.

Btw, what video formats can the N73 play? The SYNC could do 3gp and RealVideo.

Finally, where is the best place to get the N73?

Thanks! One more thing. The SYNC had very nice anti-aliased fonts that made the small screen very usable to me to browse the web. How is the N73 in this regard? In particular if you go to AVSforum.com which has yellow text in blue background and is a pain to read on the Razr but was great on the SYNC.

The nokia web browser is the best in my opinion, it looks like a mini webpage just like how it appears on your computer, mouse pointer and all. And I did watch cingular video with mine just fine.
Also, I second ImportGSM

The E50 is basic but does everything. Has quadband and Edge and is cheap. I got mine to wait it out until N95. If you know your gonna sell the phone in a couple months why spend money. Just get a used one.

there is this new wonderful thing called google you should try.

i dont' know about the n73 but i get edge with my e62 in BFE seriously though, i get edge where alot of sprint and tmo people have no signal.

I've never had a problem.

The N73 would be good if you want something now to hold you for a few months. The E50 would be better if you're just going to dump it when the N95 comes out.

Personally, I'll be holding onto my N73 till there's an unbranded S60 US 3G phone with a CZ lens. Nothing else would be a good replacement, IMO.

I've not had this issue either. 2-10 SMS messages per day on my N73.

Maybe it was a glitch in the area? Or, is this issue consistent? The ONLY time I've ever had issues with VM or SMS messages arriving in a timely manner is when I was in the middle of nowhere, or roaming.

HTH.

Is there any way to find out where is Cingular using 850 ? I mean if it's mostly out West if wouldn't bother me that much as I'm on the East Coast.

So by comparison, the E70-2 has a inferior camera to the N73, but the E70-2 does have a QWERTY keyboard.

Also the E70-2 isn't quad band. It is GSM 850/1800/1900. Doesn't matter really unless you are planning to travel overseas.

I personally think the E70-2 is a great phone. I have one and use it quite a bit. However the E70-2 camera is not up to the standard of the N73.

They'll both run Java apps. Both run with EDGE speeds. RF performance is about the same on the E70-2 and N73.
