I used to cycle a great deal, but due to the location that I moved to and my work schedule it became very difficult to find time/area to ride. For the past 4 years I've primarily been a swimmer/runner--It's a lot easier to throw on a pair of shoes and walk out the front door as opposed to fighting inter city traffic and get out to some country roads for several hours. That said, I'm looking to start road riding again. I started on an older Cannondale R500 before they had CAAD frames, and eventually moved on to an R1000 with a CAAD 7. I sold both however, to friends who had stayed in the sport and now I have no bike. I know my way around a bike really well, but I haven't been following the newer models. I was wanting to know, what is reasonable right now? I'm wanting to jump in at the R500/600 level as it was in 2003. Budget is up to $1000, + or - a little. Any suggestions and/or feedback?
P.S. - I'm not exclusive Cannondale--I've ridden Giants, Treks, and Cervelos, I've only owned Cannondales though.
