I think the more loosely based ones are more popular.

I've not seen any of these, they don't appeal to me in the slightest, saw the original the fly, but none of the other two or the remakes.
King Kong in particular you could not pay me to watch.

Another vote for The Hills Have Eyes. I liked the remake of The Amityville Horror as well. Perhaps even more than the original.

Cape Fear, Ocean's 11, The Departed, The Man Who Knew Too Much

I have not seen the original but thought Cape Fear was magnificent, with De Niro & a very young Juliette Lewis. Such a good blance of creepiness and tension.

I also love Clueless based on Emma - does not quite count as a remake.

If we're going that way, then Cruel Intentions was an enjoyable remake of Dangerous Liaisons.
