Best Psychological Movies (Use Spoiler Tags)

Kablooey  I forgot about The Matrix, too - a major reason why I loved it was because of the whole philosopical debate going on. The whole "is seeing believing? What do we actually know?"; existantialist questions about life and reality and the meaning of it all. :D which is also partly why I hated the sequels - Reloaded because it was just asking questions for the sake of asking, and Revolution (is that it's title?) because it didn't ask any questions at all, it was just a dumb action flick.

Anyway. I liked The Prestige as well, if you count that - it had twists and turns and you never really knew what was going on.

I know, I know!! Everyone's told me that  I'll get my hands on it one of these days... :look:

I forgot about The Matrix. That's definitely one that gets you thinking. Then you start thinking about whether or not you're really thinking, and then your mind pretty much goes kablooey.

Another term for a psychological film is a "Mind Fck".

There are plenty of MF films out there like... The Matrix series for one; Memento being another; and even Basic Instinct because it plays with your mind using a lot of potential red herrings and casts doubt on who is the actual killer when all is said and done.

Hmmm... this thread makes me want to see many of the films mentioned... such as Fight Club, I'm an odd ball out for not have seen that movie

As for Psycho, I totally agree. I was shocked at the ending the first time I watched it. Hitchcock's truly the king of suspense. Also, I think his other film Vertigo is another masterpiece... totally plays with your mind as the story goes on.

I was quite fond of the John Cusack movie Identity. Kept wondering the entire time wtf was going on.

I love Donnie Darko. It's one of my favourite movies of all time. It screws with my mind every time I watch it, and I'm still not quite sure that I understand it... But I think that's the point

I also liked Saw. Purely for the fact that I didn't see the end coming. And I always see the end coming. Nothing ever surprises me in those sort of movies, they're usually so predictable. But with Saw I didn't have a clue until the last five minutes. It was a quality movie.

Same goes with The Sixth Sense back when I watched it ages ago. That was an ending I didn't see coming.

I love it when movies make me think I'm smarter than I am, then BAM right at the end I realise I really don't have a clue.

Psychological movies or ones that play with your mind and make you wonder "why" or "how" really interest me. These movies that play with your mind can be in pretty much any kind of genere. I would say psychological thrillers are usually the movies that play with your head the most.
I would say that Donnie Dark, Fight Club, and Vanilla Sky definately played with my mind and made me wonder.
So what are your favorite movies that play with your mind?
