Best pocket sized GSM phone based on reception?

I have AT&T/Cingular GSM in the Boston area, where reception is mostly none-too-good. I am using a Motorola V600 which is a great phone in terms of features and a crap phone in terms of reception. I also have a Nokia 6590i (dual band) phone which I periodically go back to using because of how bad the reception is on the V600 (the Nokia does a lot better).

Both phones are small enough to pocket, which is a prime consideration.

If the most important issues for me are small (pocketable), clarity for me and the person on the other end, and best reception, what's the concensus best GSM phone? (I don't care about camera and extras like that...) Also, what's the best GSM phone meeting these criteria *AND* also considering that I will have to buy it myself (not gonna get it from my phone company because I have AT&T unlimited/$99 plan and Cingular won't toss ANY bones to someone who has that...)

Look into the VK Mobile VK2000. It is quad-band which should equal good reception, and is quite pocket-sized.

It is pretty much featureless, but like you said, you don't need features, just good reception.

If you want something with good reception and good features, look for a Nokia 6230b.

The above is a link for the 6230i, which is the tri-band version. The 6230b is the quad-band version.

It has quad-band, expandable memory, a decent camera, FM radio, mp3 player, etc.
 
Thanks...Looks like the 6230 is gonna be my phone...However, it looks like ONLY the 6230b will work with US carriers. The 6230i is a tri-band phone with 900mhz/1800/1900, which unfortunately isn't gonna cut it in the US. That makes me sad since it has a few considerably nicer features.

So 6230b it'll have to be...

Just a note, neither the 6230i or 6230b are quadband. Both phones will work in the US, but if you have Cingular you'd only get the advantage of one network instead of utilizing two of them. Tmobile's coverage is 1900mhz (minus roaming agreements) so both phones will work on Tmobiles entire native network.
 
You are right, the 6230b isn't quadband, but it does have 850. My mistake. Either way, you should still get good reception out of it.
 
Got the 6230b and it's the bomb! I'm getting good reception in places I never got reception of any sort before (either with my POS V600 or my OK 6590).
